Sandy, you are correct. The current bishop has loosened some of the past restrictions.
The thing that separates this “vision” from the more recent ones is the “visionaries ” didn’t tour the world exploiting it and they also lived exemplary family lives. I believe besides the deceased one other moved to the US years ago.

I think I may have met her in the early to mid 1980s….there used to be a pilgrimage at a shrine an hour’s drive from my home that was in honor of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. I took pictures of the ‘alleged’ visionaries crowning a statue of Our Lady of Fatima. I remember that they were very humble in their demeanor….and very pretty!
I thought under Church Law, the local bishop is sufficient for approval or condemnation of an alleged apparition.
I understand that Garabandal’s bishops have leaned negatively against it.
Rick Salbato of Unity Publishing has done some work documenting this.
I have read in the Garabandal Journal that a definitive approval or disapproval cannot occur until/unless the prophesized events (e.g., “The Miracle” take place.
A few years ago, my wife and I drove to Garabandal and spent the most peaceful three days I can recall. When we were leaving, we said to our hostess “You are not old enough to have been alive during the visions, are you?” She replied that she was a very young girl and can’t make a clear distinction between what she remembers and what “Loli” told her. Loli? We asked. She then said Mary Loli was her older sister. We have very fond memories of our trip and of this gracious woman.
It is my understanding that Church approval (at any level) cannot be given since there is a pending event, of which only Conchita knows the date, which she may reveal eight days prior. Once the Miracle of Garabandal occurs, the whole world will know what the visionaries know.

Correct me if I’m wrong, I was under the impression that the visionaries were to live to see the miracles take place? Was this ever stated in the visions or did I just imagine it?

When we visited Garabandal in the early 70s, she helped us make our beds in her father’s inn in this very small mountainous village. Mary Loli was charming, cheerful, unpretentious, completely normal. In Spain the pillowcases are open at each end and when Mary Loli stuffed a pillow into a clean pillow case, the pillow fell out the other end. She rolled her eyes at her own clumsiness and we all laughed as we made the beds.
Her parents were just regular hard-working people in this farming community with sheep and goats. We ate in her father’s little bar. The whole town emptied every night into the little church to say the rosary.
Long before the craze in the States, this is where I first had yogurt. It was unsweetened, fresh and raw…I hated it. Mary Loli’s father would not let me up from the table until I finished it. The bar emptied for rosary, and as soon as I choked this ‘treasure’ down, I ran through the village, the last one to enter the full church that summer evening.
[I see little resemblance to the questionable Medug. experiences we hear about, but like any unapproved apparition, I reserve judgment on Garabandal, tucking the stories away, comparing them to other prophecies and apparitions, taking all in context.]
