I didn’t realise there was a Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace;
Martino? That’s not a good sign.
Well, I guess now we can put our tongues back into our mouths and just listen.
But I’m sure the silence won’t last long. The real question is, “Will any minds be chsnged?
July 7… July 7… That date, in the not-so-distant past, had some strange significance that I just can’t quite recall…
I’m sure that this document won’t disappoint either.
The lefties are drooling that this document will bash capitalism and promote socialism. Socialism, as Lady Thatcher used to say, works until you run
out of other people’s money. Tom
When will it be available so we can get copies and read them? Hopefully before the press tells everyone what it says and thus convinces them they do not need to read the real thing–or else they see in it only what they were already told to see in it!
I’d like to see a release date which means copies hit the bookstores world wide on that date–sigh. Papal encyclicals are more important than Harry Potter but don’t get as good a treatment!
Ann, I expect we’ll be able to read it on the internet on the day it is released but by the time it is printed and on the shelves we’ll all have moved on to other things.
In this instance, the issuance on July 7 is driven by the fact that the G8 Summit in L’Aquila begins the next day (the summit had been originally set to be held on Sardinia, but was moved as a gesture in the wake the earthquake earlier this year in L’Aquila).
I have a feeling this encyclical is going to p-off the emotionalist, anti-religious (but pro-spirituality) persons both within and without of the Church.
“Love in Truth? Whatever man. Love, man – just love.”
The Pope sure seems to have an affinity for the seventh of July.

There is a great reference book call the Compendium of Social Justice that is a good read on all the encyclicals that have been written about social justice.
