Women religious in Asia/Oceania support “beleaguered” U.S. sisters

Here’s a funny one from the ulta-lefty over-the-top dissenting National Catholic Reporter.

My emphases and comments.

Asia, Oceania women religious offer support to beleaguered U.S. sisters
Statement represents a step in global women religious unity

In a symbolic and bold move, 113 women religious leaders from 17 Asian and Oceania nations today issued a statement of solidarity with U.S. women religious who are facing two Vatican investigations. [So… if communities of women religious in the USA are being investigated, they are "beleaguered".   They are being ATTACKED!  They are UNDER SIEGE!  They are PERSECUTED!  What a bunch of horse hockey.]

The women began their nine-day conference Oct. 13, and as they conclude, they said they want to send a message to their sister sisters half a globe away that they are one with them in their time of difficulty. [Silly beyond imagining.]

The meeting is being held under the auspices AMOR, [Soon, hopefully, to have greater attention from the Holy See….] which is holding is 15th gathering since the loose network of women religious was organized in the early 1970s. AMOR, which stands for Asia-Oceania Meeting of Religious has been holding its meeting with the theme “Jesus Encounters the Syro-Phoenician Woman: Called to Move Beyond.” The solidarity statement was viewed by many as one answer to the call.  [The Syrophoenician Woman! aka The Canaanite Woman!  LOL!  The best thing on this is the brilliant, must-read comment by "Diogenes"  HERE.  A quote: "The Emboldened Canaanite Woman Shtick is one of the oldest gags in the white suburban liberal homiletic repertory, already a cliché-benumbed yawner by the late 1960s. Their point was that, if Jesus was not above correction, neither is the Church he founded, whence we should all feel free to follow our own moral and theological intuitions." ]

If you have the stomach for it, you can read the rest at NCR, but I don’t recommend it.

When will the National "Catholic" Reporter be investigated?

As ridiculous and foolish as all this is, it’s sobering to think that these women religious are in peril of the souls by propagating this garbage. Pray for them!

  2. It’s sad that they can’t tell the difference between a teacher making a mistake and a teacher inviting a pupil to spar with him.

    Sheep without a shepherd….

  3. esquiress says:

I find it incredible that these same groups who in the past have complained about a lack of respect and attention from the Vatican, when the Vatican comes in to ostenibly prevent their orders from dying with the Baby Boomers, scream “INTERFERENCE! OPPRESSION!”

You can’t have it both ways.

  4. JoeGarcia says:

If I am ever blessed with a third son, I will have him named John Diogenes Philip in honor of the three men who have made this issue the clearest in my mind.

  5. Rachel says:

It’s silly, all right, but I can’t simply relax and laugh because these harpies have the ear of the media, and for that reason some bishops seem to have an inordinate fear of offending them.

  6. j says:

The Vatican is sending “leagues” of inspectors? Didn’t know they had that many. Might be stockpiling for the next round.

  7. Bryan says:

I just love seeing a fine, aged whine.

  8. TNCath says:

I’m not so sure these dear sisters in Asia and Oceania really “get it” when it comes to women religious in the United States. Sadly, as much as I am looking forward to the Apostolic Visitation take place and the answers these communities have to give to the questionnaires, I am not so sure that anything concrete will ultimately happen to them. Chances are, they will continue to live out their lives as they always have until the “biological solution” ultimately occurs.

  9. I wonder if they are “one” with the Sisters who are just fine with the Apostolic Visitation? These are the orders who look forward to the opportunity to assess and strengthen their vocations and their communities as they prepare the answers to the questions.

Evaluation is not something to be feared. Aren’t we, as Christians, supposed to be evaluating our selves in relation to Christ all the time? Good grief!

Regarding investigating the “Catholic” in NCRep: unless someone wants to prove the hypothesis is false, what is there to investigate?

  10. dcs says:

Now that we know what the religious sisters in Oceania think, one wonders what their counterparts in Eurasia and Eastasia think.

  11. How I would to see the day the Vatican “beleaguers” these Asia Ocenia sisters by sending the inspectors over! They are wrecking havock here! Sample? Nature Worship, Polka Mass, Street Politician, Gender-Empowerment-Bordering-On-Women’s-Ordination… You get the picture.

  12. Rachel Pineda says:

Weakeningly painful. It just hurts. Why does it seem that everyone has to make up suffering these days. Bored with good old fashioned sacrifice? Let’s invent our own! A dignified hidden life of prayer befitting to a Bride of Christ? Piffle!
    It just hurts.

  13. LarryD says:

“…the loose network of women religious was organized in the early 1970s…”

I suppose that’s better than a network of loose religious women…

  14. Hidden One says:

Hmmmm… sounds like another Visitation might be useful.

Also, as to the Distorter… well, reading it is one of the fastest ways to find out who opposes Pope Benedict, so it is kinda useful.

  15. Supertradmom says:

I am very upset by these types of reports, and as a Catholic woman, embarrassed by the rebellion and adolescent behavior of some of the orders regarding the Visitation. A convent in the next state, which encourages new age types of spirituality and labyrinth walks, needs such a visit to remind the nuns Who their First Love really is–Jesus Christ. Most of the nuns there, as I know personally, voted for the now pro-abortion president and maintain that abortion is not the only issue. These sisters dress better than myself and most of my peers, moms who cannot afford the latest in fashion. Sadly, but for good reasons, the youngest novice is in her late forties.

Unlike those nuns, the Benedictine Sisters of Mary, Queen of Apostles in Kansas City, are thriving. God bless the new orders and God wake up the older, compromised ones. May the Visitation bring them back to reality.
