Coming back home late ‘s evening from a domestic errand , bit nippy weather, to find the seven youngest saying the Rosary by themselves.
Warmed heart’s cockles, it did.
Sounds abit Pi ? Consider: wife run over pedestrian crossing two weeks ago , hobbling round on crutches, one of the elder ones awa studying, in hospital after car accident monday ,5hrs away, smaller ones went into saint mode two weeks ago but couldn’t keep it up, poured wax into gas fire etc, everyone, me esp.snappy and the devil got in and even just the second night of saying Rosary and you can FEEL the difference in the atmoshere(Physically chilly on account said wax.)
smaller minor pleasure : wife and self succesfully mending gas fire all by our little selves, it hasn’t blown up yet.This family’s guardian angels deserve a prize for overtime over and above the call of duty!
I have just received some nice surprises. For the past two years, I have had a novena booklet regarding the Miraculous Medal. It is in the Lithuanian language, which I do not know, but my husband does. I thought that the whole book consisted of prayers, but last night when I showed it to my husband, he translated the pages at the back for me. They were testimonies of favours granted to people by Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal. Hearing them was like being let loose in the lolly shop. My husband still has to read some more of them to me. He is not finished yet. In addition my friend came last night and brought me some presents. Among them was another amazing account of the Miraculous Medal.
Is it ever anything but the small things, or are the big joys just little joys that overflowed?
Here’s one for you: reading my girlfriend’s love letters. (Yes, handwritten. We’re young fogeys like that.)
Filling the birdfeeder just before dawn, seeing bright Jupiter (?) alone in the sky and the diamonds sparkling in the snow. Having tea, my kittycat next to me, watching the cardinals flock to the tree.

Seeing my parish priest celebrate the OF Ad Orientem was a Love Letter from Jesus
This was a very big joy for me: A local auto repair shop which jump started my car (I stupidly left the lights on all day in near-zero weather!) and didn’t charge me a cent!
Also, a very important “lost” file at my office, which turned up in an unexpected place. When it turned up, I really did think of the parable of the lost coin, the woman’s joy at finding it, and Our Lord’s joy over “finding” repentant sinners.
Choosing to be generous rather than to stand on one’s rights. God is so generous to us that every day he gives us many opportunities to imitate him by being generous to others.
