Well, Lady Thatcher was a godsend against the commies and to slow down the socialist drift of Britain, but she was terrible on life and family issues. Also it is one thing thinking of the ’80 in retrospect, after having seen ’89, the fall of the Wall and everything. But in 1981-2, it was still a dark 1970 night, (St.) Ronaldus Maximus and Bl. JPII were alone, at the beginning of their struggle, surrounded with hostility and fighting like lions against the whole world, their own staff and the political – religious establishment trying to block them every step of the way. And H. Mass at your average parish? If you weren’t there, you will never understand why someone would say that we have it better today. And priests had THOSE seminaries to endure…
@WillD but the 80’s also gave us Communion in the Hand, girl Altar Boys and parachute pants. Blech! lol

I’ve been playing guitar for over 22 years and I’ve NEVER seen an acoustic guitar with anything but a rosewood fretboard. This is the first time I’ve seen an ash or maple fretboard on an acoustic.
Perhaps the good Fathers were mocking the zeitgeist of the Church in the 80s, while still rocking out to some good 80s music. ;-)

Father Z, you obviously like good food and like to prepare it. Have you been looking at Bishop Etienne’s blog? He has some pictures of fresh-caught fish that I would like to place on my grill or fry pan! Maybe you should visit Wyoming, pick up your coffee and try to get a fish from the Bishop!
A little word of advice for the next time, Father: the viola da gamba needs to be held vertically. Otherwise it looks like one of those strange instruments people used to use at Mass in the 1980s…

Nothing wrong with a guitar in its rightful place (i.e. NOT at Mass).

Martin acoustics sometimes have ebony fretboards (although they do mostly have rosewood). On the other hand, Spanish classical guitars of any quality almost always use ebony – husband has a pretty decent Cordoba with an ebony fretboard. (He’s also an old rocker and has an SG that is entirely maple – body, neck, fretboard and all — but of course that’s not an acoustic. I have nothing to do with electric guitars, play a little classical but mostly bluegrass and ballads.)
I was craning my neck trying to see the music, but all I could discern was that there aren’t any chord notations above the staff. That’s a GOOD sign . . . .
I graduated from high school in 1980 ( I wasn’t Catholic back then ), so the “do it your own way” spirit of the 70s was still in full force. In fact, they didn’t play “Pomp and Circumstance” at my graduation. No, they played “Nadia’s Theme.” A SOAP OPERA THEME, for crying out loud!! :((
