About this blog…
“This blog is like a fusion of the Baroque ‘salon’ with its well-tuned harpsichord around which polite society gathered for entertainment and edification and, on the other hand, a Wild West “saloon” with its out-of-tune piano and swinging doors, where everyone has a gun and something to say. Nevertheless, we try to point our discussions back to what it is to be Catholic in this increasingly difficult age, to love God, and how to get to heaven.” – Fr. Z

- The most evident mark of God’s anger and the most terrible castigation He can inflict upon the world are manifested when He permits His people to fall into the hands of clerics who are priests more in name than in deed, priests who practice the cruelty of ravening wolves rather than the charity and affection of devoted shepherds.

“Until the Lord be pleased to settle, through the instrumentality of the princes of the Church and the lawful ministers of His justice, the trouble aroused by the pride of a few and the ignorance of some others, let us with the help of God endeavor with calm and humble patience to render love for hatred, to avoid disputes with the silly, to keep to the truth and not fight with the weapons of falsehood, and to beg of God at all times that in all our thoughts and desires, in all our words and actions, He may hold the first place who calls Himself the origin of all things.”

Don’t rely on popes, bishops and priests.
“He [Satan] will set up a counter-Church which will be the ape of the Church because, he the devil, is the ape of God. It will have all the notes and characteristics of the Church, but in reverse and emptied of its divine content. It will be a mystical body of the anti-Christ that will in all externals resemble the mystical body of Christ. In desperate need for God, whom he nevertheless refuses to adore, modern man in his loneliness and frustration will hunger more and more for membership in a community that will give him enlargement of purpose, but at the cost of losing himself in some vague collectivity.”
“Who is going to save our Church? Not our bishops, not our priests and religious. It is up to you, the people. You have the minds, the eyes, and the ears to save the Church. Your mission is to see that your priests act like priests, your bishops act like bishops.”- Fulton Sheen

PLEASE subscribe via PayPal if it is useful. Zelle and Wise are better, but PayPal is convenient.
A monthly subscription donation means I have steady income I can plan on. I put you my list of benefactors for whom I pray and for whom I often say Holy Mass.
In view of the rapidly changing challenges I now face, I would like to add more $10/month subscribers. Will you please help?

"But if, in any layman who is indeed imbued with literature, ignorance of the Latin language, which we can truly call the 'catholic' language, indicates a certain sluggishness in his love toward the Church, how much more fitting it is that each and every cleric should be adequately practiced and skilled in that language!" - Pius XI
"Let us realize that this remark of Cicero (Brutus 37, 140) can be in a certain way referred to [young lay people]: 'It is not so much a matter of distinction to know Latin as it is disgraceful not to know it.'" - St. John Paul II

Let us pray…
Grant unto thy Church, we beseech Thee, O merciful God, that She, being gathered together by the Holy Ghost, may be in no wise troubled by attack from her foes. O God, who by sin art offended and by penance pacified, mercifully regard the prayers of Thy people making supplication unto Thee, and turn away the scourges of Thine anger which we deserve for our sins. Almighty and Everlasting God, in whose Hand are the power and the government of every realm: look down upon and help the Christian people that the heathen nations who trust in the fierceness of their own might may be crushed by the power of thine Arm. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with Thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end. R. Amen.

I’m a university chaplain in England and plan to introduce the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite to our Sunday Masses here – not sure yet how often. I’m hoping it won’t be too much of a jolt, since all our Masses are already ad orientem, with Holy Communion kneeling. I think the silence is what people will most notice, and I trust this will be an occasion of opening up the Divine Mysteries to them.
One of the mothers at my parish started a girls group, Handmaids of the Blessed Sacrament. (kind of a junior sacristan program but with a lot of focus on prayer)- Our priest has been so supportive. He has given two beautiful homilies at the First Saturday Mass before our meetings. So thankful for Father T.
My priest told me that he would like to learn how to celebrate Mass in the EF and offer it in our parish, Deo Gratias!
He will need a lot of support though so I ask for your prayers…he does not yet have the backing of the parish priest and hasn’t mentioned it to anyone else.
The Blessed Virgin has answered my prayers and is protecting me from the evil one. That is very, very good news.
We finally forced the school to admit that my son needs an IEP, and they’re going to actually provide services. I’m in shock. This is like an act of God. Part of this was that on just about 24 hours notice, the doctor who performed the testing on my son was able to be part of the conference, and she fought them whenever they tried to downplay his issues.
Only 18 more days until the c-section! I will get to meet this baby and see if the ultrasound tech was correct as to gender, I will get NOT to be pregnant anymore!!!!!! I am sick, this whole pregnancy I have been ill. Not life threatening but miserable! ONLY 18 more days to go to meet a baby who is expected to be healthy! :)
My in utero son is now kicking hard enough to be felt by people other than his mother. My 5 and 4 year old daughters are absolutely enthralled by getting to put their hands on mommy’s tummy and feel their littlest brother kicking. My 2 year old son, predictably, doesn’t care, but that’s alright.
Bishops do listen. I contacted my bishop, R. Walker Nickless to thank him for taking a strong stand on HHS and Obama. He responded, directly to me.
If you are so inclined, for whatever reason, contact your bishops, they do listen.
Here is the email that I received from him;

My second son, Joseph Ignatius, was born at 15:16 on February 1st, 2012. :)))
I Just got My new annotated copy of the Code of Canon Law,it arrived at Thursday morning and I brought it the next evening. DEO GRATIAS!
The Dominican Friars of the Eastern Province will celebrate a Mass in the Dominican Rite for the Feast of St. Thomas Aquinas (old calendar) at the high altar of St. Vincent Ferrer Church in Manhattan on March 7.
There also will be scholarly talk on the evening of March 6: “Beyond Dogma: St. Thomas & Postconciliar Modernism” with Fr. Guy Mansini OSB.
My sister-in-law is now 25 weeks pregnant and looking and feeling very well.
By 8pm tonight I should have been to 2 Low Masses and 3 Missa Cantata in the last 8 days. Not bad.
Good news? Let’s see: The sun came up, I woke up, my wife woke up, our son woke up, her mom and twin sister woke up, I am guessing her brother woke up by now though I cannot confirm that at this moment. I got to work without incident, my work is progressing well.
The more important good news: The Lord Jesus Christ came to save balloons filled with hydrogen bitterness who explode in flaming fury when poked the wrong way by the slightest disagreeable spark. Or maybe I am more like nitroglycerin? Anyway the point is that if I am bumped the wrong way or too many times I explode and that is what I need saving from.
On Friday, I was going to confession, when I realised that the church was unexpectedly closed (not altogether unreasonable, but a long story nonetheless). However, the priest who was to be hearing confessions braved the sub-freezing temperatures and heard confessions outside. (Throughout the Continent, we have been experiencing a very cold spell of weather.) It was a small thing, but it made a big difference, and was also very edifying and inspiring. So huzzah to him, and to Confession.
I woke up today to give glory to God for yet another day!
I got me degree in Pastoral Ministry on Saturday!

New Job after 15 months of looking
Went to Mass Sunday expecting the usual Low Mass (EF). Surprise! Padre, the MC, several servers, and an excellent choir combined to celebrate a High Mass. My guess is that it was the first High Mass in this parish since the Endarkenment of 1966. It was beautiful and must have taken a lot of work. Father chanted very well, hadn’t heard him sing before.
I survived my interview on Thursday. I’m pretty sure I got through at least 100 Hail Mary’s while sitting in the lunch room for 30 minutes waiting for my interview, as they were behind. As a result I went into it calmer than I had ever been before. No awkward sweaty palms either. Lol! It was actually a pretty good interview given how worried I was about it and not having to go through an interview since 2008. Now to wait two weeks for the results. It would be nice to get hired this time around, but I know there’s at least 5 permanent positions coming up, and more rumors of retirements happening. I figure of this is where I’m supposed to be In life, it will happen when it’s time for it to happen. So far everything else has fallen far too easily into place for me here.
The travelling Statue of Our Lady of Fatima is spending the week at a parish in my city. Adoration and the Rosary are scheduled for every weekday.
I think that church bulletins should include a list of contact info to Senators and Reps in DC for its parish members to use.
My parish offered blessings for St Blaise’s feast day. There were four lines – 3 priests (including the Bishop in my diocese) and one deacon. :) :)
