Where some of you are

As the election campaigns heat up, show your colors.

I took a snapshot of locations that show up in my stats when people visit the blog.   There were far more “unknowns” than I have seen in the past, which is curious.  Also, the places listed are often approximations.  If you have been on within a a few minutes of my posting this, don’t be surprised if you don’t see your location.  Still, it is interesting to see how the site links together people from all over the world, all images of God, all with their own stories and challenges, and vocations.

  1. I wonder if the “unknowns” are the increasing readers who check in on their mobile devices?

  2. APX says:

    @Mulier
I know in the past when I checked on my iPhone, my IP address showed as coming from somewhere in Ontario. I live on the other end of the country, a good 3.5 day’s drive.

  3. disco says:

Chestnut Hill! There’s hope for Boston College yet!

  4. OrthodoxChick says:

I notice several folks checking in from RI, CT, and MA. Hello to my fellow refugees here in liberal-land!

  5. BaedaBenedictus says:

Disco, that could also be St. John’s Seminary! But you’re right, perhaps Peter Kreeft is reading this blog ;-)

  6. norancor says:

Technically speaking, when Google decided to make everyone logged in to some Google service (Gmail, Analytics, Webmaster Tools, Picasa, etc) secure, by that I mean over an https:// connection, those visitors now show as “unknown” or “no referrer” in your stats. They did this supposedly out of security, but everyone really knows it was done to cripple or put at a disadvantage all non-Google analytics and query data so that you are pushed into advertising on AdWords, their paid search program. You still get all of your referred search data when you pay them to advertise.

Here is a good overview of the politics involved by Danny Sullivan, the owner of SearchEngineLand.com, who is well known and a reputable source for SEO information: http://searchengineland.com/google-puts-a-price-on-privacy-98029

The more referrer data that gets tossed into your generic no referrer or unknown, the more of your users are logged into a Google service somehow.

“Do No Evil” is Google’s supposed mantra. Meh. What a crock.

  7. Pastor Bonus says:

Well I check this blog several times a day, every day, and my location has never once appeared on these lists :-(

  8. Serviam1 says:

    Checking in…another from liberal land.

    VA Medical Center
    West Roxbury [Boston], MA

  9. racjax says:

During the time I was unable to connect after you had to limit certain IPs, I used proxy IPs so that might be one of the reasons, also.

  10. iPadre says:

Harrisville, RI – That’s me, on my day off.

  11. saviolenn says:

    Mumbai, India
I’m Savio D’Souza here. 22, recently reverted back to the faith, thanks to the wonderful resources i found on blogs like these online.
i love your blog fr. Zuhlsdorf.
you are the coolest priest in the world!!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. Southern Catholic says:

Abernant and Talladega? Wow, there really are Catholics everywhere down here in the Protestant lands.

  13. JonPatrick says:

Glad to see that there are more than a few lockstep sheep and papist throwbacks here in the People’s Republic of Massachusetts and nearby!

  14. cjcanniff says:

Chestnut Hill!! That must be me here on the BC campus, or perhaps there are other WDTPRS readers at BC as well :)

  15. Bea says:

I saw only one from Arizona (under a really good Bishop/Phoenix)
I’m in southern Arizona (Tucson area) (different bishop/no comment)

  16. GrogSmash says:

    Greetings from Lewisberry, PA!

  17. Salvatore_Giuseppe says:

Count me among the Chestnut Hill/BC readers. There’s hope for this campus yet it seems…

  18. AloysiusJM says:

Aww…No South Hadley, MA? I guess we didn’t make the cut. :P

  19. Filipino Catholic says:

Greetings from the lone pillar of the faith here in Asia…. the only place where divorce and abortion together are still illegal, c/o the Church’s centuries-long strong influence on the culture here. (Government is trying to change this, of course.)

    AD IESV PER MARIAM,
Filipino Catholic, signing in from Manila, Philippines.

  20. Supertradmum says:

London, England, soon to be Cork, Ireland

I think London is more Catholic.

  21. Filipino Catholic says:

^ What? I thought Ireland was a bastion of so-called “papism”! What happened to the Emerald Isle?

    AD IESV PER MARIAM,
    Filipino Catholic.

  22. Supertradmum says:

FilipinoCatholic, read my blog and put in “Ireland” in search.

  23. The Sicilian Woman says:

    Not represented. :-(

Filipino Catholic, enjoy the strength of the Faith in your country while it lasts. I know there are efforts underway to bring down the Church there, too.

Supertradmum, good luck with your move.

  24. Makemeaspark says:

Lansing Mi, but the server could be the Detroit or the Fort Gratiot (which is Detroit area)
I pray for you each week at either Friday adoration or one of the weekday masses, father. Especially for your protection and good health.

  25. I can’t tell you – I’m anonymous!!!! : )

  26. wmeyer says:

Suwanee, GA, here, and I never see my town in your list. :-(

  27. VexillaRegis says:

And there are lots of WDTPRS’ers in Europe too! We were probaby sleeping when you checked the IP-adresses, Fr. Z.

  28. Cricket says:

Hey, where are my South China seminarian friends, from Hong Kong & Macau? You know who you are! You’re also the ones who got me reading “WDTPRS” in the first place.

  29. Melody says:

Is it bad that I see hits from my area and think, “I wonder how many are my age and single?”

  30. Supertradmum says:

Melody, you crack me up. Wait and trust is my motto for you lovely single ladies.

  31. Michelle F says:

I didn’t see West Virginia on the list, and it should be there.

It’s funny that Fr. Z should post this today; I was wondering just last night whether we would all get to see each other in Heaven someday.

  32. frjim4321 says:

Wondered if that is a running list over several hours or days or an instantaneous snapshot. I am on here a bit and I don’t really see anything within 50 miles or so, maybe even 75.

  33. Sissy says:

I’m like you, frjim4321. I never see my location. Maybe we don’t really exist?!

  34. frjim4321 says:

Must be our effective IP cloaking. / ;- )

  35. Sissy says:

Ssssshhhhh! The first rule of IP cloaking is NO talking about IP cloaking!

  36. JacobWall says:

I got excited when I saw “Kitchener, Ontario!” But I looked up my IP address (http://whatismyipaddress.com/) and it shows up as Owen Sound, Ontario. “Kitchener” did show up as part of the hostname. I also know of several other readers from the Kitchener area. Oh well, I’ll just pretend it is me and be excited about being on this list.

  37. frjim4321 says:

Cool site . . . thanks for the link, Jacob.

  38. JacobWall says:

frjim4321 – Owen Sound is about 80 miles from where I live (125 km) while Kitchener is about 15 miles. All logic says I should show up as “Kitchener,” but I don’t. It’s altogether possible that you show up as one of those locations 50-75 miles away. But that site I shared should tell you.

  39. Sissy says:

When I was in the Bahamas, that never showed up, but Miami, Fl often did. I figured that might be mine.

  40. JacobWall says:

Supertradmom – as per your suggestion to FilipinoCatholic, I searched your blog for “ireland.” Sad. I commented on the blog post, Sad, Sad Ireland.

  41. wmeyer says:

JacobWall, I am far from Kitchener, but used to live in Ontario. Are you looking forward to Oktoberfest?

  42. Andkaras says:

Yes thanks Jacob, for the site .I guess Milford must be me ,but I’m a little more to the east ;)

  43. TopSully says:

I usually check in from Cranberry Twp, PA which is shown on your list, but since I’ve been in Ireland the past week it obviously wasn’t me. I wonder who else in that small town follows you?

  44. David Collins says:

Hello to my fellow Louisvillians! I hope y’all ain’t Cat fans : )
