I am showing that video to my five year old daughter tomorrow. She just couldn’t believe that the life of a nun involves doing her favorite things!
Beautiful! I love to hear real religious singing and chanting as their closeness to God oozes from the sound and you can tell it is a prayer. What a blessed life they have. In another lifetime… but maybe it will please God to call some of my children to such a beautiful life. In the meantime, may they pray for us parents who live in the world and try to keep peaceful and holy houses, and some semblance of a prayer life in the midst of raising little ones (especially civilizing little boys!). Thank you, Sisters, for your witness and sacrifices.
Another album I truly love by the sisters is Echoes of Ephesus, I think you can still buy it at Monasterygreetings.com and Amazon.com. There are some truly beautiful hymns both traditional and original on this album. These sisters can chant, looking forward to their new Advent release!
Dismas,
You can order any of their CDs right at their website. In fact, if you chose to do so, ordering the Advent at Ephesus CD at the sister’s site will put more money directly into their hands. Echoes of Ephesus is also one of my favorite. Mother Cecilia has always been a musician. How beautiful that she can now help create music solely for the glory of God.
Maeana, what’s the link? I don’t see how to order any CD’s any longer directly from their website?
Maena, I found the link on their website to buy their new CD, but not other CD’s?
I love these sisters!!! We had the privilege of visiting them in September and hearing them in person. They are truly beautiful sisters! I own all three of their other CDs, and there is no disappointment. I have preordered two, and can’t wait!
“When you purchase Advent at Ephesus from our website, a significant amount of the proceeds will go directly to our community. In addition to assisting us with our present needs, the funds will also go towards the future construction of our permanent monastery building. May God reward you!” http://benedictinesofmary.org/content/advent-ephesus-0
Two of their CDs are for sale in our gift shop, as a fundraiser for them. I bought the Marian hymns and plan to get the Christmas album asap, before they’re gone. It is perfectly beautiful and I expect the other one to be as good.
Will have to purchase the Advent one, as well. My CDs from Wyoming Catholic College have some, but an entire album would be such a devotional help.
How exciting – an Advent CD ! Now I won’t have to be nagged by the fam for listening to Christmas Music before Christmas. They can be sticklers!
Thanks for correcting the St Augustine quote !
If we order here http://benedictinesofmary.org/content/advent-ephesus-0
They don’t loose a percentage to Amazon
Really impressed by the quality! I’ve ordered it direct from their site (thanks for the link, AnnAsher). That the demonstration on the site included one of my all-time favourite carols “Angelus ad Virginem” was an added bonus! So looking forward to receiving this and very glad to support the Sisters.
Dismas,
You’re right. I just ordered copies of all their CDs last week for a friend, but this morning, there was no way to get to the others. I just went back and checked, and there is now a recordings link, but you can only get the new CD right now. I hope they become available soon, because I get the feeling that anyone introduced to the sisters for the first time will be interested in hearing more.
If Augustine didn’t say the line about praying twice, who did?
The 2000 GIRM says:
39. The Christian faithful who gather together as one to await the Lord’s coming are instructed by the Apostle Paul to sing together psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs (cf. Col 3:16). Singing is the sign of the heart’s joy (cf. Acts 2:46). Thus Saint Augustine says rightly, “Singing is for one who loves.”48 There is also the ancient proverb: “One who sings well prays twice.”
In other words, it is from an ancient proverb or old saying (antiquitus in proverbium). No origin is given in the document.
