On Fr. MacRae’s blog, These Stone Walls, he referred to … ummm.. Pope B16 (for lack of a better reference) as Benedict the Beloved. I think it’s fitting for the Pope of Christian Unity.
There are no coincidences.

[Great idea! GO TO CONFESSION! I was thinking about doing penance, but… hey!]
I completely didn’t even grasp that today was “First Friday”. I grasped that it was Friday, so I didn’t have class, and that it was the first, this rent was due, but “First Friday” slipped my mind. So did the penance thing. Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa. I still have the rest of the day with lots of unwanted homework to do. I suppose I could defer procrastination to something else and actually do my homework now and offer it up.
Went to Mass. Received Holy Communion. Prayed for the Church, and for the selection of a holy, heroic Pope.
Made my own confession yesterday for today and offered confessions after morning Mass. I offer confessions every 1st Friday.
FYI: According to the Ordo/guide we get, no devotional Masses (Sacred Heart) are allowed during Lent. That does NOT mean that you cannot do your own 1st Friday devotions, or that the priest cannot talk about the Sacred Heart, but that the central focus of Mass is meant to be Lent and the readings for the day.
In the FSSP Ordo, on the Lenten First Friday a priest can the Ferial Mass or the Votive Mass of the Sacred Heart of Jesus with commemoration of the feria. The latter was observed in our parish this morning. (Two new-ish teenage male servers this morning, Deo gratias.)
For the past four months, my husband and I have had the ability (and joy) of attending the First Friday EF followed by Exposition and Holy Hour. I think @Miss Anita summed up our intentions.
@JuliB–I have often referred to Benedict XVI as ‘our beloved Holy Father’ so I would be pleased to hear ‘Benedict the Beloved’ become the favored appellation. It was due to his writings and, later, his election, and finally Summorum Pontificum that I entered the Church.
We’ve had a number of “the Great”s… I think having a “the Beloved” would be new, interesting and heartful, and Benedict seems like a good candidate to me.
Benedict the Beloved has a nice ring to it.
We attended a Liturgy of the Pre-Sanctified (Byzantine rite) last night.
