Thank you for this, Father. A beautiful moment recaptured. Such a sense of peace, and of a live occasion – you can hear the perfectly concerted bowing of the choral heads at ‘Veneremur cernui’.
It made me want to get on a plane and go there and join in.
How beautiful!
Thank you Father Z for posting this. Whenever I hear Gregorian chants like this or sacred music outside Mass, I can only think of one thing: Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. Music like this is very focused and leads us to Our Lord. Ten plus years or more ago, a CD by a group of monks that was all Gregorian chanting did very well at the cash register. I have to believe that CD only helped in fostering an increased appreciation for the Traditional Latin Mass that we are now seeing in the American Church. Now, compare this type of sacred music to “Gather us in”, “On eagle’s wings” and “Gather the people.” Seriously, for anyone who has had to endure a Novus Ordo Mass with these protestant-style pop songs, do you really think about Our Lord or are you distracted by images of picnics, dancing hippies and “new age” birds flying across the rainbow?
I was at LeBarroux in 1983. What a beautiful peaceful place.
Thank you for this, Father. This was a light shone upon a dark and weary heart. To know that such beauty still exists in the world makes enduring the daily grind seem bearable. You can not have any idea how very much I needed to hear this. Thank you, a million times thank you.
