I would buy one of those buttons if they sold them.
Our Denver KofC council is conducting 40 days of prayer for persecuted Christians starting on 8/29 (Martyrdom of St. John the Baptist) through 10/7 (Our Lady of the Rosary). Through them I learned of this prayer which is attributed to a group called Aid to the Church in Need:
“Father in Heaven, you make your sun shine
on good and bad alike.
Your Son Jesus Christ died for us
and in his glorious Resurrection
He still retains the five wounds of his Passion.
With his divine power he now sustains
all those who suffer persecution and martyrdom
for the sake of their fidelity
to the faith of the Church.
Merciful and mighty Father,
do not allow Cain to return again to murder
helpless Abel, innocent Abel.
May persecuted Christians around the world
remain, like Mary, their Mother,
together at the foot of the cross
of Christ the Martyr.
Comfort those menaced by violence
and those oppressed by uncertainty.
May your Holy Spirit of love
make fruitful the witness and the blood
of those who die forgiving.
Amen.”
If I wasn’t on the West Coast, I’d be there. Instead, at Mass (In the Extraordinary Form of course.) this afternoon, I prayed for the Christians in Iraq, and for the conversion of the muslims throughout the world.
I think it would be grand if, in addition to having prayer vigils outside of
baby-killing factoriesabortion “clinics” (And I use that term very loosely…), we also set up prayer vigils outside of mosques (both shiite and sunni) throughout the Western World. muslims need to see and be confronted with the many errors of mohammed, and there are many. And more importantly, more than almost any other group on planet earth in my opinion, they need to convert to The Faith.Father, if you or someone can get these up for sale, I’m pretty sure we would all buy and wear one.
I would enjoy attending a daily Mass at Holy Innocents if Cardinal Dolan does not close it down before my next trip to NYC.
I’d buy one for sure.
Would it not be wonderful if all parishes in America had such a vigil? Although the priest is very good in this area, the people are asleep and do not want to hear about martyrdom. They choose to live in the 1980s.
Where can one get those buttons?
If anyone would like a button, please contact the parish office. There is no charge but a small donation would be appropriate.
The Vigil was quite well attended. As we were dispersing after the prayers, a cross of light appeared in the sky. A celestial confirmation of a “vibrant community of faith”. It was a beautiful sight!
A Holy Hour for Persecuted Christians was offered at the Sts. Simon and Jude Cathedral (Bp. Thomas Olmsted) in Phoenix yesterday. It was a powerful hour of prayer, and the cathedral was packed.
