13 October? I’m just sayin’

A priest friend sent this (with editing):

Makes one ponder…

  • Oct. 13, 54 Nero becomes Roman Emperor
  • Oct. 13, 1884 Pope Leo XIII’s vision leading him to write the Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel
  • Oct. 13, 1917 The Miracle of the Sun at Fatima
  • Oct. 13, 1973 Apparitions at Akita: “cardinal opposing cardinals, and bishops against bishops…”
  • Oct. 13, 2014 Relatio post disceptationem of Extraordinary Synod

The Rosary and St. Michael: a powerful duo.

    Yeah, wow. And that word “disceptationem”. Coincidence? Any other synonyms that might have been used? I thought they were supposed to use Italian.

  4. SteelBiretta says:

    Wasn’t the October 13, 1917 Fatima apparition the only Fatima apparition where the Holy Family appeared?

    “disceptationem of Extraordinary Synod”?
    “deception of Extraordinary Synod”?
    Sounds like a deception to me

  6. Elizabeth D says:

    I’m sure this is probably stated somewhere nearby but will someone fill me in on what does “disceptationem” mean? I thought I was reading critics of the document calling it “relatio post-deceptionem.” I would have expected something like “post-disputationem”.

    [I addressed this in one post or another. A deceptatio (thus deceptationem) is a “dispute, discussion”. A deceptio (thus deceptionem) is “a deception”. The preposition post requires the accusative case (-nem).]

  7. SteelBiretta says:

    Elizabeth: it means “dispute, debate, or discussion.”

    p.s. (courtesy of M. Voris), the Pilgrimage of Grace 1536.

    In our times, we must hope, the Faithful will have their Church restored to them and not be martyred.

    That all the English, Irish, Welsh, and Scots martyrs died in defense of Marriage and the Blessed Sacrament cannot be restated often enough. Accommodation to the those who would alter the teachings or disciplines of the Church regarding the indisolubility of marriage is a blasphemy against their witness, and a callous scorning of their sufferings and their deaths.

    W.B. Yeats. Was he about a century early with this?

    Turning and turning in the widening gyre
    The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
    Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
    Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
    The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
    The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
    The best lack all conviction, while the worst
    Are full of passionate intensity.

    Surely some revelation is at hand;
    Surely the Second Coming is at hand.

    Be careful now . . . I was born on Friday the 13th.

  11. Maltese says:

    Of course, message ends on a rather sour note: fire and death, if we don’t better ourselves. I for one believe in Akita (as did the local Bishop, and, I’m told, Pope Benedict), and the necessity to heed Our Lady there, as when she warns she usually has a reason to (ala Our Lady at La Salette).

  13. October 13 was the day of the burial of Eugenio Pacelli, Pope Pius XII on the 41st anniversary of the “Miracle of the Sun”.

    And isn’t Pope Pius XII supposed to have seen something like this one day in the Vatican gardens? Or am I thinking of someone else?

    Whatever is going on, we are getting our priest to have 40 hours of devotion before our Lord once a month. He has to drive 30+ miles to do it. First time our monstrance has been used in many years.

    We can’t defeat the forces of the darkness with violence or more evil, only with the power of Jesus and his blessed Mother.

    And it was our HS kids who asked for the devotion time… I think the young are coming around. Just yesterday I had a kid tell me how shallow all the modern world is. Evil can’t vanquish us. Remember, the Evil One and his agents always consume themselves. The wicked always act too presumptuously. Intent prayer can help here.

    Don’t forget Oct. 13, 2017 – the 100 year anniversary of the Miracle of the Sun! ;) Some people are predicting that to be a very special day. But we’ll see.

    I have often wondered whether it is more than coincidence that Fatima dates correspond with the history of Russia and the Imperial Family.

    This fascinating article studies the movements of Lenin in 1917 alongside the events at Fatima.
    http://www.ewtn.com/library/HOMELIBR/FR93403.TXT

    The last surviving Empress of Russia was Nicholas II’s mother, Maria Feodorovna, who died in 1928 in Denmark on 13th October.

    Apart from being the date of one of the Fatima apparitions in 1917, 13th June was the date in 1929 when Sr. Lucia received an apparition calling for the consecration of Russia.

    Grand Duke Michael, brother of Nicholas II and named by him as his successor when he abdicated, was the first of the Imperial Family to be murdered after the Bolshevik revolution. He died on 13th June 1918.

    Grand Duchess Olga, Nicholas II’s sister, who died in Canada in 1960, was the last surviving child of a Tsar. She was born on 13th June 1882.

  17. KevinSymonds says:

    I think it was Kelly Bowring who originated this “October 13” lineage.

    Leo’s vision, by the way, most likely did not take place on October 13. There is no credible source for this information. The earliest known goes back to an article in “The Remnant” but the priest who wrote the article did not give a source.

  18. revueltos67 says:

    Oct. 13, 1962 was also the day of the first working session of Vatican II.

    The day of the famous incident when Card. Achille Lienart, a leading French liberal serving on the council’s board of presidency, cut off the microphone of Card. Ottaviani in mid-speech as he asked the assembly to consider the texts representing 3 years work by Vatican II’s preparatory comissions.

    In the same short session, as described by Romano Amerio on Iota Unum, “Cardinal Leinart seized the microphone, thus violating due legal process” successfully demanding that the election of council commissions, scheduled for that day, be delayed. This delay was key to the ultimately successful move by the liberal Rhine country bishops of packing the commissions with liberal members, discarding the preparatory texts and replacing them with texts more to their liking.

    Again per Iota Unum: “Cardinal Lienart’s action was regarded by the press as a coup by which the Bishop of Lille … deflected the course of the council and made history. All observers recognize his action as a genuinely decisive point in the course of the ecumenical council; one of those points at which history is concentrated for a moment, and whence great consequences flow.”

    Great consequences that Holy Church and faithful Catholics must live with to this day.
