LEPANTO INSTITUTE: National Catholic Reporter MUST be Banned by US Bishops

At Lepanto Institute there is a call to the US bishops to “ban” the National Schismatic Reporter (aka Fishwrap).  In the post there a good summary of the sort of dreck that flows from that open pipe.  They make a good case.

I’ve have called on the bishops again and again to strip the Fishwrap (aka National Sodomitical Reporter) of the use of the word “Catholic” in their (official) title.

And there is this prayer, as well.  Let them convert, please God, or let them fail and close their shop of horrors forever.

Prayer for the Conversion or Downfall of the National catholic Reporter

Dest-joseph-patron-of-the-churchar St. Joseph, Terror of Demons and Protector of Holy Church, Chaste Guardian of Our Lord and His Mother, hear our urgent prayer and swiftly intercede with our Savior, whom as a loving father you defended so diligently, that He will pour abundant graces upon the staff of that organ of dissent the National catholic Reporter so that they will either embrace orthodox doctrine concerning faith and morals or that all their efforts will promptly fail and come to their just end. Amen.

Ten years ago, the only bishop that would have anything to do with the NCR was Bishop Thomas Gumbleton. In this “age of Francis,” many bishops are now using the NCR to further their pet causes. In the words of Vito Corleone at the meeting of the Five Families, “How did things ever get so far?”

I discovered by accident just a couple of days ago that I have been banned from making comments on their website, which I NEVER go to. I was trying to respond to an article that was posted on FB or Pewsitter, not realizing the origin. I suppose I should feel honored to have been banned.

Thanks for this prayer. I will print it out and make it part of my daily routine.

“Both Lepanto and Church Militant sow division wherever they tread. They do not seem to acknowledge the need to work with civic society and its representatives on a project like the World Meeting of Families. And we are not going to spend/waste time arguing with them. They are sincere, but also destructive. No one on our leadership team supports abortion or Planned Parenthood” – Abp. Charles Chaput

Kind of creepy that nobody takes credit for lepanto, nobody is willing to attach her/his name to it.

[Yes, it is rather creepy when people hide behind anonymity when posting.]

Lepanto is also trying to undermine CRS, one of the best things the bishops have going right now.

[Meanwhile, what if what Lepanto Institute wrote about the Fishwrap is true? Are you saying that what they wrote about the Fishwrap is not true? If not you are using and ad hominem rather than refuting their claims.]

This post isn’t about CRS, but since it was mentioned . . .It was determined last year that CRS had a male Vice President who was discovered to be “married” to another male! He was forced to resign thanks to Lepanto and LifeSite News investigative work.

Not really a fan of ChurchMilitant, but in their defense, when the ordinary of the diocese where they’re based asked them to remove the word “Catholic” from their name, they promptly complied.

Bishop Helmsing of Kansas City asked the National Catholic Reporter to do so in 1968. They have yet to comply, 48 years later.

I find the National Catholic Reporter quite useful. I’m aware of the biases and can easily enough correct for them.

Um, all the articles I see on Lepanto’s blog are signed by Michael Hichborn.

The Lepanto Institute’s president is Michael Hichborn, as is clearly stated on their website. Their blog post are clearly marked as to authorship.
They don’t post their donor list. Nobody does that. So what exactly is being claimed here?

My parish during my undergrad years was run by a once-proud but now sadly
heterodox order. There were always stacks of Fishwraps available for
free in the vestibule of that church. Evidently the parish kept several dozen
subscriptions just for that purpose. They didn’t move much, for I recall that with
the arrival of the latest issues, stacks of the old papers would be tossed into the
dumpster. I came to realize that this arrangement was the way that parish helped
subsidize the Fishwrap and its agenda– it was beside the point that no
one in the parish seemed interested in actually reading that rag.

Whenever I hear of anyone touting the Fishwrap’s circulation figures, I
think back to all those stacks of unread papers tossed into the trash.

    Dear Clinton,

Our former pastor used to have a few copies of the Fishwrap in the vestibule of our church. Most were never taken… except by me. They promptly found their way to the local right-to-life paper drive. My pastor found out that I was taking them and asked me what I had against the ‘Wrap. I simply replied that if he continued to put that so-called ‘catholic’ publication out for perusal I would continue to use it for a better cause. He just shook his head at me. (LOL!)
