I hope all have a wonderful pilgrimage. I will be praying. Sicilia is beautiful.
I hope you have enough time to visit the Capella Palatina in Palermo and the cathedral in Monreale (outside Palermo), as well as the baroque towns of Noto, Ragusa and Modica; Siracusa (home of Archimedes); the Greek temples in western Sicily by Agrigento; Taormina; and Enna (in the center of Sicily). As for Sicilian food, try the pasta con le sarde and cuscusu; wine: Etna Rosso.
As for Puglia, I’m guessing you are going to Lecce and Otranto? Don’t miss the stracciatella di bufala, for which Puglia is known.
Have a lovely time! I am praying for you. Please take lots of photos.
At least one reader is hoping you take and post plenty of photographs of southern Italy and offer insightful commentary on all aspects of its culture.
Mezzogiorno edition also known as “menzijurnu” edition.

How about a Kindle Fire 8 HD, Father? I’d recommend the child’s edition because it is made stronger—some sort of LCD bumpers, and has a cool drop proof grippy protector.
At least in September, Naples is hot. Pompeii was awesome, however.
Ahhhh! Calabria! You’ll love it there. Great food!
Blessed and safe travels, Fr. Z.
Photos of food and travels are welcome. I’ll never go to Europe, so it’s all new and interesting to me.
Calabria! My ancestral homeland! Someday I want to visit…
capchoirgirl: Same here! I went 10 years ago with my parents and it was *amazing*. I can’t recommend it enough. It’s truly beautiful down there.
I’ve been back 3 times since and each time I leave refreshed and happy. One day, when all the kids are grown up and on their own we’d love to get a villa and retire there(or at least for a few months out of the year!)
