  1. Semper Gumby says:

The sign on the right apparently dedicates the alley to St. Tryphon. On the left, graffiti says this is “miracle alley.”

Now, this is just me talkin’, but that alley has cobblestones, so trench coats and fedoras must have been involved in any miracle. Maybe in the autumn of 1943 Msgr. Hugh O’Flaherty, Dr. Adriano Ossicini, Dr. Giovanni Borremeo and Tracer Bullet briefly eluded the grim watchers in black leather coats from Via Tasso 145 in this alley, sharing on a rainy evening a pack of Lucky Strikes and a Zippo lighter, before carefully making their way to Fatebenefratelli Hospital on Tiber Island.

Psalm 91 [90]: He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High, who abides in the shadow of the Almighty, will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress; my God, in whom I trust.”
