I’ve played around with this one a bit.

Tried Qf8 taking the rook and then chasing the King around with the rook and the bishop. Can’t seem to make it stick in 6 moves though.

I also tried the Bg7 and opening up to the King that way, but once again I wasn’t sure where to take it.

These puzzles with lots of moves are much tougher than the old mate in one puzzles.

  2. Adam: Look for moves that force. Here is a solution that forces the issue.

    1. Qxf8+ (removing the black K’s defender) Kxf8 (if he runs to h7, then white’s Qxg7#)
    2. Bd6+ Kg8
    3. Re8+ Kh7
    4. Ng5+ (look at that brave f5 pawn!) Kh6
    5. Nxf7+ Kh7
    6. Rh8#

Give that a try on a board!

Thanks for giving this a shot.

    Fr Z,

    Thanks for that.

I had it worked out all the way to step 5; the Nxf7 was what I failed to see as the next move.

Not bad, I was only one move off solving it. Thanks for the great challenges.
