I am sure you recall with fondness how His Excellency Most Rev. Edward Slattery, Bishp of Tulsa, stepped up to the plate in April as celebrant for the Pontifical Mass in the Extraordinary Form at the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC. His sermon was spectacular.

I thought you might be interested to know that the Parish of St. Peter in Tulsa, OK (the diocese’s FSSP apostolate), has been graciously given permission by His Excellency Bishop Edward J. Slattery to sing a Solemn High Mass in the Extraordinary Form to celebrate the ordination of Fr. Rhone Lillard to the priesthood. It will be Sunday, June 20th, at 10 AM at Holy Family Cathedral in Tulsa.
The Bishop has decided that this Mass should replace the normal 10 AM Sunday ordinary form Mass, which is a significant move on the Bishop’s part. Furthermore, to my knowledge, it is the first time a regularly scheduled Sunday Mass has been in the EF at Holy Family since 1970. We are hoping to have a large turn-out from the diocese and surrounding areas.
The choirs and organist of St. Peter’s Parish will be providing the music.

Great move by His Excellency Bishop Slattery! However, I’m from soutwest Ohio, and according to the Archdiocese of Cincinnati’s “Norms” for the implementation of Summorum Pontificum established in 2007, the action of Bishop Slattery violates Summorum Pontificum. According to the Norms of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati “it is not the intention of Summorum Pontificum to arbitrarily take one of the current Sunday Masses and substitute Mass in the extraordinary form merely for the sake of variety.”
Oh and by the way, according to the Cincinnati Norms, “the extraordinary form may be celebrated privately at anytime except during the Sacred Triduum.” Or how about this one: “A priest, on his own, may not simply decide to publicly celebrate the extraordinary form of Mass without a ‘stable group.’ ”
These are just some of the few humdingers the former Archbishop of Cincinnati (Pilarczyk) issued back in 2007 as part of the archdiocese “Norms” that are still in place today. The document can be viewed at:

While we do have access to a couple of TLMs in southwest Ohio, please pray that things improve in the archdiocese of Cincinnati and that these Cincinnati “Norms” are quickly revised for the better.

You are correct.
From “Summorum Pontificum”- Art. 2. In Masses celebrated without the people, each Catholic priest of the Latin rite, whether secular or regular, may use the Roman Missal published by Bl. Pope John XXIII in 1962, or the Roman Missal promulgated by Pope Paul VI in 1970, and may do so on any day with the exception of the Easter Triduum.
From “GIRM”- 199. . . An individual priest is, however, permitted to celebrate the Eucharist individually, though not at the same time as a concelebration is taking place in the same church or oratory. On Holy Thursday, however, and for Mass of the Easter Vigil, it is not permitted to celebrate individually.

This Bishop seems to “get it” in general. What a leader, his flock must be so proud. All eyes on Oaklahoma.

It doesn’t seem that Bp. Slattery’s action violates the Ohioan norm you cite:
“it is not the intention of Summorum Pontificum to arbitrarily take one of the current Sunday Masses and substitute Mass in the extraordinary form merely for the sake of variety.”
This case would be difficult to attribute merely to a desire for variety; it is for thanksgiving at a special occasion. I’m not saying the norm is good, but there would be a valid case to say it didn’t apply.
Unfortunately not ALL of Oklahoma Mitchell, only Tulsa.
The Archdiocese in Oklahoma City has only allowed ONE regular Latin Mass,….and it was just recently banished to the outermost unpopulated corner of central Oklahoma.
However; the Society of Saint Pius X graciously accepted our invitation to take care of our small chapel when it was left empty following the Archbishop’s move, and things are more wonderful than ever!

What a wonderful opportunity for the people of Tulsa to witness this great event. I had the honor of being at Fr. Lillard’s Ordination and first two Masses. What a treat indeed for all of you in Tulsa! He is quite a bright ray of sunshine, if you introduce yourself to him you will be warmed by his radiant smile and pure joy! What a gift to the Church!
I had the distinct pleasure of meeting, receiving communion from, and receiving a first blessing from Father Lillard this past Sunday at St. Margaret of Scotland of Oceanside California at the regular Sunday evening EF Mass prayed by Father Cavalla Wallace. I wonder why the new Priest was here? Anyone know?
