Chinese virus horror stories and Fr. Z gives advice to young people

I read at Radio Free Asia, a truly horrifying post.

While the ChiCom government claims victory over the CHINESE virus, other pesky pieces of evidence suggest a different situation.

It seems that so many people have to be cremated that the crematoria are breaking down.  They are cremating more than one person, so that people are finding things in urns from bodies other than those of their loved ones.

And there’s this, though it wasn’t also independently verified:

[A source close to the funeral industry surnamed Ma] said reports have emerged of people restrained and forced into body bags when they were still moving.

“One old lady was saying that they put one guy into … a body bag when he wasn’t even dead yet, and took him off to the crematorium because there was no way of saving him,” he said.

“Some people are saying that … there are video clips of screams coming from funeral homes, from inside the furnaces … which tells us that some people were taken to the funeral homes while they were still alive.”

If there were ever a reason to get down on your knees and thank God for being born in these USA….

If there were ever a reason to get down on your knees and pray for our Chinese Catholic brethren….

If there were ever a reason to demand to know the content of the Vatican accord with China….

If there were ever a reason to take back control of our manufacturing and start thinking long term….

You young people out there, who might be wondering what you are going to do in life, here’s a piece of advice.  Whatever other field of study you pursue or career path you chart, while you are in school, study Chinese.  Learn the language.  With that tool in your toolbox, you will probably have work in the future as our relationship with China, and their relationship with the world, changes dramatically in years to come.   Whatever else you will be able to do, if you have a strong use of Chinese, you’ll have a real advantage.

“study the chinese language”. Then go into virology.

    Cantonese or Mandarin?

“If there were ever a reason to get down on your knees and pray for our Chinese Catholic brethren….”

Is there not a bit of poetic, Divine justice for us in this entire Wuhan Flu debacle? We were not Chinese Catholics, so while of course it was briefly distressing to read of their being deprived of the Sacraments, they were there, and we were here with the Sacraments plentifully available.

But how distressed were we, really? Can we say that we stormed Heaven with our prayers and sacrifices, and raised such a din in Heaven that the Lord was moved to cleanse China of the CCP just to have a little peace? Evidently not! He did liken Himself, did he not, to the unjust judge who could be moved by relentless importunity? Now that the Sacraments are not plentifully available, nor our churches, we find ourselves, like Chinese Catholics, hoping at least to find an enterprising priest to absolve us.

And the strange, confirming aspect to this interpretation, is that — according to a growing chorus of analysts — like our faithful Chinese brethren we owe this entire situation to, if not the machinations, then the carelessness of the CCP, to the Chinese Communists in any case. It is a suffocating gift of the Reds and it may well- it remains to be seen- quench capitalism, too. As necessary as the Two Trillion dollar bailout may be, it is a terrific argument for socialism, for there are surely many weak minds among us who will wonder why largesse from the gov’t cannot be a regular, freeing part of life, why it cannot simply be voted in..

And when we find ourselves confronting the Sacred Triduum and Easter with our churches closed and the Mass suppressed, a person has to wonder if our American bishops would have to be co-erced into a Patriotic Association, since they were so eager to sign up. It is heartening on the one hand to find enterprise and initiative arising from the ranks of priests, and dismaying to see so little initiative, enterprise and resistance coming from our bishops. Where is the pushback that would vaunt the Sacraments as essential, and our spiritual lives more worthy of preservation than our bodies? It remains unsaid and Easter is effectively suppressed, but no one can accuse us of not being good citizens. Is all this not a kind of Chinese Communist ethos?

Ditto for just about any other western country like Canada, the UK, Poland, France, Switzerland etc. Indeed, it would be a scandal to see the above mentioned atrocities happen in those countries as well.

Doesn’t surprise those of us who have had business dealings with mainland China.

  6. Shonkin says:

Monty Python did a scene where the body collector (“Bring out your dead!”) during a plague accepted a bribe to hit a sick man over the head and throw him into the corpse cart. That was SUPPOSED to be a parody.
But China is proving that there was no parody to it. It’s horrifying — almost as horrifying as the abortions here in the USA and the infanticides in China.
    God help us all!

In the not so distant past was it not said by one of the inhabitants along the banks of the Tiber that China was an fine expression of Catholic social doctrine?
    What are we dealing with?

  9. Kathleen10 says:

We should not have to learn a new example of large scale human rights abuses from China. (I wish it were possible to capture that word in writing the way The Donald says it.) China of the forced full term abortions of a couple’s second child, dragging women kicking and screaming into clinics, or China of the Persecuted Church as it seems only traditionalist Catholics know about, the rest of the world perfectly willing to be blind to China so we can continue to appease them and buy our trinkets. And how many other atrocities, like the one perpetrated by Cardinal Parolin and our own pope and church, against faithful Catholics, and these horrible communists “being the best example” of Catholic teaching or whatever treachery was said. Lay down with dogs, get up with fleas, means when you associate with vermin don’t be surprised when bad things happen, except to the people who make the deals, they do alright, for a while.
God help us when these are our “allies and friends” and that our church thinks so highly of them and sacrifices faithful Catholics. The West is going to have to learn you can’t whistle past the graveyard with evil ideologies such as Communism, sooner or later you’ll find yourself in that graveyard, as millions of Chinese already know. Hearing this report should not surprise us at all.

    Good points Fr. Z.

Kathleen10: You’ve probably heard already, Communist China has been appointed to the UN Human Rights Council. The phrase “unmitigated gall” seems appropriate.
