He has landed.
I think the two toward the bottom of the stairs are, my friends Greg Burke of FoxNews and John Allen,of the NCRep.

“This blog is rather like a fusion of the Baroque ‘salon’ with its well-tuned harpsichord around which polite society gathered for entertainment and edification and, on the other hand, a Wild West “saloon” with its out-of-tune piano and swinging doors, where everyone has a gun and something to say. Nevertheless, we try to point our discussions back to what it is to be Catholic in this increasingly difficult age, to love God, and how to get to heaven.” - Fr. Z

Laudetur Iesus Christus! I’ll be glued to EWTN all week!
I’m only getting sound, no video, on the EWTN website site. Pity as it means I didn’t get to see his arrival.
Welcome Papa!
Our love and prayers are with you.
Viva il Papa!
I couldn’t take my teary eyes away from the coverage.
Thank you Lord for bringing the Holy Father to America.
I pray for his continued safety.

Laudateur Iesus Christus!
Thank God,our Pope looks healthy and rested! Much better than he did during Holy Week, etc.
God Bless him!
I was impressed how he removed his zuchetto several times before the wind did it for him.
There appeared to be a big difference in the pope, who wears a cassock and more every day, and some of the American bishops who were unable to compensate for the breeze and thus had their shoulder capes in their face while greeting the pope.
And no ground kissing!
Wonderful picture of the Holy Father there (sixth from the top), with the Vatican flag completely unfurled in the background.
Dóminus conservet eum, et vivíficet eum, et beatum fáciat eum in terra, et non tradat eum in ánimam inimicorum eius.
What concerns me during the Pope’s visit is the possible “run-ins” with various groups that are marginal Catholics or dissenting Catholics. I’d really hate to see the “nuns” of Our Lady of Perpetual Sorrow be there. Wonder how the Pope will handle this?
i believe the Pope was more at home with the less formal greeting as compared to his visit to Germany. The first family greeting him was indicative of those who love family life. Bravo, holy Father!
Beautiful beginning…the Holy Father looks terrific, relaxed, animated and brimming with vitality. The Bush family looks very happy too- Mrs. Bush seems to be skipping (just the camera angle, I’m sure.) This does have a family feel to it already.
Mrs. Bush forgot her mantilla :-(

Mrs. Bush probably just got the bad picture… :-\
Although, the look of Pres. Bush’s face is great 2nd to last.
I thought the ewtn coverage was terrible. They were still on the President and family when the Pope first came out, so we didnt even get to see him coming out of the plane. Then the camera angles were bad so every time the Pope and President stopped they were behind a vehicle or crowd of people or something and our view was blocked.
Timothy James said: “I thought the ewtn coverage was terrible. They were still on the President and family when the Pope first came out…”
I agree with you. I would have preferred to see His Holiness emerge. However EWTN said during their coverage that they were not responsible for the cameras, and that all the networks are patching in to one shared feed. Who’s feed, I don’t know. CTV, perhaps?
The first picture of Mrs. Bush makes it look like the camera is blurring out an inappropriate gesture!
While I too thought that the EWTN coverage left a lot to be desired, I thought FOXNews did a wonderful job. Very Catholic commentary and great shots.
I watched the Fox News coverage and as always I was very impressed. Very respectful and upbeat; sound priest commentators, no Richard McBrian in a necktie. And, like everyone, I am grateful that the Holy Father is such an exuberant and healthy octogenarian!
It must be from the exercise program of multiple genuflections and signs of the cross at his daily Mass in the Extraordinary Form that no one is allowed to see! ;)
I was surprised to see MSNBC and not EWTN cover the Holy Father’s arrival at the nunciature.
:-(
“Let’s see… I cain’t call ‘em ‘Yer Holiness’. Not exactly sure what a ‘Pontiff’ is, so I cain’t tell if he’s the supreme one or not… Well, howdy-do there, uh, Mister Pope Sir!”
Geoffrey, ditto. I found myself switching back to MSNBC to see Papa there. I like how they sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to him at AAFB. :)
Ok, that was really really beautifull!
1) I love the Catchas for WDTPRS!
2) Where is Laura’s headcovering? Or was it just too windy?
And we get to see the Pius IX cross again during the trip:

Hey! where is the picture with Mr Bush kissing the papal ring??!?
Michael beat me to it!
Actually, perhaps Fr. Z. could do a post on the symbolism of that custom (or maybe there already is one).
I thought the Fox coverage was excellent, much better than EWTN. I saw both.
I am blessed to have found this site for the first time. (Bless you Father Z) The visit of his Holiness is already working!!! As I’m sure it is working in millions of ways clear only to God.
I have an unimportant question that I can’t let go of….the flags seem to be up from the very first picture in which the plane is taxiing from the runway to the final destination. Surely the plane doesn’t fly with these flags up, right?
Thanks,
Charlie
