I’m not a blogger, but occasionally check your site. That being said, I’m presumptious in requesting a favor for the Extraordinary Form congregants here in Toronto. I’d like to inform them about the following:
1) The FSSP is established in the city; I have temporary residence at Holy Cross Church, 291 Cosburn Ave, East York. Masses will continue at Shomberg and Scarborough, with the assistance of Fr. Liam Gavigan.
2) Daily Mass will be offered at Holy Cross Church 291 Cosburn Ave, East York, beginning this Monday, August 11. The schedule will be posted in the FSSP Apostolate bulletin, and eventually here at Holy Cross, which may be found online or by contacting the rectory. This week’s schedule of Low Masses is:
Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday: NOON
Tuesday 7:00 PM
Thursday 7:00 AM (This week only; beginning next week Thursday’s Mass will regulary be at 7pm.)

I’ve seen several parishes that offer the EF schedule one for Thursday evening, while it is offered in the morning on other days. Is this just to coincide with the time of the Last Supper, or is there another reason?

I am so happy. Toronto is where I grew up. How is Fr. Gavigan these days? Are the Oratorians also still celebrating the Traditional Latin Mass (Fr. Robinson et al.?)

Yep, the Oratory now has a daily TLM at their Holy Family parish and a weekly TLM at their other parish, St. Vincent de Paul.
The Oratorians have the TLM at Holy Family Church Mon-Fri at 11:30am, and Saturdays at 8:30am. The Sunday TLM (Missa Cantata) is at St. Vincent de Paul at 9:30am. There is also a sung Latin NO Ad Orientem at Holy Family Sundays at 11:00am.
The idea of that evening Mass is so that those who like to go to daily Mass can have an opportunity. In today’s commercial world it is hard to get away during the day.
The Last Supper analogy may be true, although we have had that evening Mass on Tuesdays in my area. Both the FSSP and ICK parishes now do it on Thursday nights.

Excellent news for the Archdiocese of Toronto. The faithful there have a wonderful new priest.
I try to go to the sung Latin NO 11AM Sunday Mass at Holy Family as much as I can. When Father Z writes about how Pope Benedict wants the “old” Mass to have an influence on how the “new” Mass is celebrated, I think about that sung Latin Mass. If I had to guess, that’s probably what the Pope is envisioning. It seems to be the perfect blend of both Masses.

I have been to the FSSP Apostolate in St Catherine’s, Ontario a few times when visiting from Scotland where Fr Venette was based previously. It sounds trite, but he says “a lovely Mass”, as they say here in Glasgow. He has a fine, rich voice that brings out the beauty of the Latin.
Does anyone here have any idea how huge and spread out Toronto is?
East York is about as remote as it is possible to be and so far off the transit line that it might as well, for the purposes of actually getting there on a Sunday morning, be on Mars.

It’s easy enough to get there. Just take the subway. Get off at Donlands and walk a bit north.

Oh my. Well, as someone who can easily walk to Holy Family and St Vincent’s, I’m delighted that Archbishop Collins has spread the joy to other parts of Toronto besides my own. For plenty of people in our sprawling Greater Toronto Area, East York is close by and it’s Parkdale that’s the back of beyond.
In any case, the letter says Holy Cross is a temporary home. Honestly, I see nothing to complain about in this news, and everything to be thankful for.
The second time I ever assisted at the Gregorian Mass was in the FSSP apotolate in St Catherines Canada.
Does anyone know the name of that church and who is the rector?

It is known as Our Lady of the Angels Oratory. I think if you google FSSP Canada you will find it.
The Rector was Father Venette who is now in Toronto.
