Today is the feast of St. Charles Borromeo.
My friend Fr. Jeff More is in the place in Switzerland where a biretta of St. Charles is preserved. It is said that St. Charles left this biretta there just a few days before he died. They took it out for his feast day.
Here is a good shot with a detail. I think NLM has another.
I recommend many good things about this photo.
First, Fr. Moore is wearing a black chasuble.
Second, he has his biretta.

I thought the birettas were much higher at that time.
Wow, I’ve heard of saints’ bodies being miraculously preserved, but I didn’t know their birettas could be miraculously preserved. That’s a 16th century hat, and it looks brand new.

If you treat a good hat well, it will last you a long time.
Also, I’m sure the hat is stuffed inside with something non-acidic, as well as being kept under glass.
The picture in the background is the one of the Blessed Mother giving the Rosary to St. Catherine of Siena and the Baby Jesus giving the Rosary to St. Dominic. I’ve heard this picture called Our Lady of Pompeii and also, Our Lady of Rosary. The image is one example why the Dominicans are so attached to the Rosary.
