MANIPLE
In honor of Fr. Z, I’m tying one on tonight, and tomorrow morning!Happy New Year!
I love it when a priest is determined to tie one on to celebrate the New Year! In public too!

“This blog is rather like a fusion of the Baroque ‘salon’ with its well-tuned harpsichord around which polite society gathered for entertainment and edification and, on the other hand, a Wild West “saloon” with its out-of-tune piano and swinging doors, where everyone has a gun and something to say. Nevertheless, we try to point our discussions back to what it is to be Catholic in this increasingly difficult age, to love God, and how to get to heaven.” - Fr. Z

Must be an Irish priest. ;)
Stu: Irish? Noooo…..
Good for you, Father (the one doing the ‘tying on’.
Good for you Father Z. for your encouragement.
Good on all wdtprs’ers this New Year.
So are there any liturgical/practical rules regarding the use of the Maniple? Do you take it off for sermon as in the Extraordinary Form? Where would one put it during the sermon?
padredana: I think that for the Novus Ordo you could do as you please, take it off or leave it on. Were you to take it off, and you were at the sedilia, just leave it there, if at the altar, the custom is to place it on the open missal.
The maniple in the morning is the proverbial hair of the dog, right?
Merear, Domine, portare manipulum fletus et doloris; ut cum exsultatione recipiam mercedem sobrietatis.
Happy MMX!
Thank you Fr. Z., it shall not be long before I “tie one on.”
I noticed that my pastor had “tied one on” at the Christmas Midnight Mass. I mentioned it to him after Mass and he seemed rather pleased that I had noticed.
He did not have one tonight for the Vigil Mass. But I suspect that was because the vestment set he was using was “defective” in that it had no burse or maniple.
John
Our pastor ‘tied one on’ a couple of weeks ago, and also at the Christmas masses.
Fr. David Brown, S.J (editor of the New Jesuit Review!!) “tied his on” for Mass this morning in the ordinary form. It was wonderful!
For those who want to know about the maniple, get a pre vatican II Missal and start reading from the 1st page up until the first Sunday of Advent or buy ‘My Catholic Faith’ by Louis Morrow Angelus Press $42.00. Knowledge of you Catholic Faith is a wondrous thing
OK, how do I get my parish priest to “tie one on?” Should I buy him a white one, a green one, a violet one, and a rose one?
ssoldie, I have an older copy of the very book! Not that I’ve opened it yet.
