Yes, it is Ash Wednesday, but the the important events of life go on.

We are rooting for the US women against the Germans… which leaves me a little conflicted, but not much.
The field of battle.

“This blog is rather like a fusion of the Baroque ‘salon’ with its well-tuned harpsichord around which polite society gathered for entertainment and edification and, on the other hand, a Wild West “saloon” with its out-of-tune piano and swinging doors, where everyone has a gun and something to say. Nevertheless, we try to point our discussions back to what it is to be Catholic in this increasingly difficult age, to love God, and how to get to heaven.” - Fr. Z

This, like shooting and unlike weightlifting, strikes me as an event in which separate men’s and women’s competitions are unnecessary. Just my $0.02.
Go U.S.!!
Japan v Canada just went to the last rock of the last end…needless to say, the Canadian women won it!
The first ever Olympic medal won by a Newfoundlander was the gold won by the Gushue rink for curling at the 2006 Olympics. As a result we now have a Gushue Highway. Curling, big stuff north of the 49th. (well we are actually at about 47)
Upcoming Olympic Curling matches:
Women’s Round Robin CAN vs. USA Feb. 21, 9:00 AM PST
Men’s Round Robin CAN vs. USA Feb. 22, 9:00 AM PST
Friendly bet Fr. Z

Pffffftttt… conflict, eh??!! (hmmm… strangely reminds me of a certain scene in Star Wars)
Anyway!!! Being a German girl, I must say: German girls are unbeatable!!

Yahoo Sports today reported on one of the alternates on the Canadian women’s team. Who happens to be six months pregnant!
Ioannes: separate men’s and women’s competitions are unnecessary
I wonder if it would be a good idea to put men and women with sticks of any shape together on a sheet of ice.
Argh no cable in my apartment makes this the worst olympics yet, I have not got to see a second of curling. Only once every four years and I miss it… *sigh* oh well
I myself cannot wait for the 2012 Summer Games to arrive so I can watch the new exhibition game coed synchronized speed finger painting.
;)
Oh no Father…the men’s USA v Switzerland just went to curling SUDDEN DEATH after the drama of the measuring tape in the final end!
THE DRAMA!
Father, you need to get out the Rituale and do some sort of blessing of the brooms because the US is not doing so hot so far. 0-7 combined.
ESPN: “Curling is the new hip Olympic sport? You heard right.”
