I have a number of his books and have enjoyed them all. I will have to get them unpacked and reread them once I have my new shelves up.

    Requiescat in Pace.

He was a great confessor. Very tough, but very fair.

  6. Jason Keener says:

    Rest in Peace, Fr. Dubay.

By the way, I highly recommend Father Dubay’s “Fire Within.” It is the best book on prayer and the spiritual life that I have ever read. I try to read it once a year.

  7. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God, rest in peace; and may light perpetual shine upon them all. Amen.

Fr Dubay was the greatest spiritual writer since Garrigou-Langrange and probably the greatest of the 20th century — even greater than Garrigou-Lagrange. Certainly he was the foremost author on the Spirituality of St John of the Cross and St Teresa of Avila in the history of the Church.

  9. Oh, how saddened I am to hear of Father Dubay’s passing. I have learned much from him, as I am sure we all have. May he rest in peace and be welcomed into our Father’s house.

  10. GregH says:

By the way…”Fire Within” is one of the great spiritual masterpieces in the history of the Church. It could only have been written by someone who experienced what he wrote.

May his memory be eternal! I loved his talks on EWTN.

I second (or third) the recommendation for “Fire Within”. A truly wonderful book.

    God rest Fr. Dubay’s soul.

  13. Prayers for the happy repose of Fr. Dubay’s soul.

I have only read a couple of his books on prayer, but they were really great. I also have ‘The Evidential Power of Beauty’ on the bookshelf and my long ‘to read’ list.

    Prayers for his soul…
He was a wonderful author. Deep Conversion/Deep Prayer jumpstarted my prayer life like few other things have.

Fr. Dubay was giving a retreat to our clergy support group in Los Angeles in 2001. The second day of the retreat was 9-11. It was very difficult for us to have the spirit of recollection, yet Fr. Dubay was a trooper as he tried to give his themes and, at the same time, provide solace and comfort as retreat master. R.I.P.

Prayers for the repose of Fr. Dubay’s soul.

  17. That’s a man who was ready to die, every day. You could see the light through him, even though he wasn’t sickly at all. I guess we’re not used to seeing gentle people on TV. I learned a lot from his EWTN shows and radio broadcasts, and I like his books a lot. He didn’t talk in a boring way – he was energetic — but his shows had a magical ability to send me off to sleep. I guess they were just that peaceful.

“The Evidential Power of Beauty” is a thriller, well worth a look. Based on the recommendations, I need to get “Fire Within.”

  19. Girgadis says:

May Father Dubay rest in peace. One of the spiritual investments I made some years ago was to purchase his fine series on St. Teresa of Jesus. I never got around to watching the entire thing but now I have the impetus to do so.

  20. Norah says:

    I will miss him.

  21. Angelika says:

Thanks be to God for the gift of Father Dubay! May he rest in peace.

  22. Marg says:

My mom and I loved his talks on EWTN…he’s already finished with his purgatory after having the patience to endure the ticking clocks used as a backdrop on his program. Need to read some of his books. May he rest in peace.

I got the news of Father Dubay’s death while watching the ‘Daily Mass’ on EWTN.com. The priest who said the Mass, Father Anthony Mary, announced it before he began his sermon.

When I worked in the local Catholic bookstore, I found one of his books, ‘…And you are Christ’s’. It was not a thick book, so when business was quiet I would sit and read it. I think that was the only one of his books that I could understand.

I used to be a member of the Secular Discalced Carmelites (OCDS). One of the members in the group was a young schoolteacher who had Father Dubay as a spirtual director! She once showed me a picture taken on a retreat he conducted in New Jersey! It was so funny, seeing this tall young woman sitting on a couch next to small, skinny Father Dubay. I always said to her, ‘You are so lucky to have someone like him to direct you!’ (man, was I jealous….but in a good way ; ) )

May Father Dubay rest in eternal peace-I’m sure he’s reveling in the company of St. Teresa of Avila and St. John of the Cross, whom he loved and wrote about so much.

  25. Mamma B says:

May the Lord grant him blessed repose and eternal memory!
