Consistory news coming soon

Last week I wrote:

Could we hear the announcement of a consistory perhaps next Wednesday during the General Audience?

The answer is: YES.

I predict that tomorrow we will hear the announcement of the names of the new cardinals, made at the Wednesday General Audience and the consistory will be 20 November, the Feast of Christ the King.

Hoping for good news and praying that some good holy men will be appointed.

Anyway, I’m hoping it’s better news than L’Osservatore Romano declaring Homer Simpson a Catholic (???) today and reassuring us all that, “While . . . “The Simpsons” often jabs at religious figures . . . parents should not be afraid to let their children watch “the adventures of the little guys in yellow.”

Such a prestigious endorsement notwithstanding, I can easily find much better things for my kids to watch than the crude, low-brow antics of The Simpsons.

My prayers will be with the Holy Father and all the priests/bishops that will be elevated.

Some names Im looking and praying to get the red hat.
Archbishop Burke, Archbishop Ranjith Malcomn, Archbishop Andre Leonard , Archbishop Mauro Piacenza, Archbishop Jose Gomez , Archbishop Kurt Koch, Archbishop Dolan,
Would love to see Archbishop Chaput and Bishop Anthansis Shnieder, one can pray for that.

  4. rtmp723 says:

@nzcatholic Archbishop Gomez hasn’t even taken over LA. Don’t expect him to get a red hat for another year or so. Cardinal Mahoney is only 75.
Palmo said Burke 19 will be elevated, 18 voting, 1 over 80. The two that he knows of are Burke and Wuerl.

A useful project for someone to undertake would be “prelatewiki”—some sort of accessible means for keeping track of all the bishops and their leanings. As things stand, when the consistory is announced, we will be given a bunch of names, many (presumably) less than wholly familiar, and it would be convenient to have a one-stop resource through which to parse the announcement.

The Angelic Salutation is efficacious for all. The ‘intention’ of others is really not our business, is it? I sometimes wake up at 4 in the morning and can’t sleep and all kinds of worries and stupid thoughts go through my head. I say a rosary, however ‘mechanically’ and even fall asleep in the middle and it is certainly not a ‘good rosary’ as rosaries go but it honors my Holy Mother and honors my soul more than worrying about my auto repair bill!

    Perhaps something like this: http://www.catholic-hierarchy.org/

    Just the facts.

    Youve got to be kidding.
Is Alfred E Newman the editor of L’Oservatore Romano?
    The Simpsons!
What a drug addled new low.

Methinks the Reverend Father has a secret source! ;-)

    For Italianspeakers, from Andrea Tornielli:

The announcement comes tomorrow, Burke, Ranjith, Koch are in; from seats where the predecessor has not reached 80, no red hat will be given.

depeccatoradvitam, yes, just like that. What a splendid resource that is! If it could add some kind of neutral assessment of their general disposition, that would also be helpful. I don’t know how such a synopsis could be written, but it’s surely possible.

  12. Just for the record, Bart and Homer Simpson did convert to Catholicism on one episode, the one where Liam whoever played a priest. (And the Church was actually treated pretty kindly.) The next episode all was forgotten, IIRC; but it did happen. I’m sure you can find videoclips of the episode.

So yeah, L’Osservatore Romano is crazy these days, but it’s not as crazy as you thought.

“the consistory will be 20 November, the Feast of Christ the King.”

Isn’t Christ the King on Sunday Nov 21st?

  14. Gaz says:

I sort of thought that Christ the King was 31 October this year :-)
