Very cute, but why does the goat have a pig’s nose? :)
I believe I’ve heard people say that in the old days (6 or 7 decades ago), some parishes would regularly publish lists of parishioners, if not naming dollar figures than sorting from highest to lowest.
@Rob
Yes, indeed. Fifty-five years ago. A comprehensive list of parishioners’ contributions with exact amounts was printed and distributed by our pastor. Rest his soul, he was a builder. The folks may have complained that “he talks about money all the time”, but the church and school still stand as monuments to his zeal.
Something I’ve noticed in my years of church life.
Frequently those people with the least disposable income are the most generous with the church–in proportion to their income, and sometimes even in amount.
Fr. Z,
If that were Mystic Monk Coffe, the goat would be a sheep and there would be no rat in the conversation.
The 4 people who read the parish bulletin at any given church usually already know everyone’s business, at least that is what I have found at the parish I work at.
Rob, a woman in one of my online groups says her parish still prints a list of what every single parishioner gives to the parish. I cannot believe that’s really in keeping with Jesus’s command not to let the left hand know what the right hand is doing, so I suggested she mail that to her diocese the next time they do it and find out if that’s truly something the Catholic church approves of.
Because they do that, she will not donate to her home parish except anonymously, and I wouldn’t either. Frankly, it’s none of my business whether or how much the Smith family or the Jones family contributed, and I don’t want other people to wonder if we’re having financial trouble if I go from donating a certain amount to donating only half that.
LOL Father.
They also say that if you want to keep anything a secret, put it in the parish Bulletin.
