VIDEO: London Rosary Crusade 2017

This is a marvelous video sent by a friend in London, who wrote:

Here’s how Fr Tim Finigan described it a couple of years ago.

This occasion must rank as one of the most splendid manifestations of Catholic faith in our country in recent years. The numbers have been swelled by the immigrant Catholics who have come to form part of the Catholic Church in London. At the same time, the clipped tones of the English middle and upper classes demonstrated that the Church is truly Catholic. There was no snobbery here – and no inverted snobbery. All were as one, witnessing to the faith they love, taking Our Lady onto the streets of London, and filling a Church that represents the high-point of English Catholic restoration – and not only in the 19th century.
I would encourage anyone who is dismayed by the falling numbers of clergy, or mass goers, or marriages, to come next year. This event neither seeks nor receives any official encouragement or support. If any ecclesial activity could be said to be of the people of God, it is this. You want to see the Church alive and kicking? Here is where the action is.

Wonderful! Might anyone be able to tell me the name of the beautiful processional entrance hymn sung in the church?

  2. leutgeb says:

Andreas, the hymn is – Hail Queen of Heaven, the ocean star.

The video is fab. Outside Harrods, there were at leave two waves of the Lourdes hymn going at once.

The Oratory is just along from where the previous Sat South Kensington was cleared in a hurry by the police. All the more reson to go in the Rosary Rally.

  3. THREEHEARTS says:

Hail Holy Queen. Standard and was the most sung of all hymns closely followed by O Purest of Creatures. Learnt my knowledge of Blessed Mary. The children sang O Purest of Creatures when we were consecrated as children in every Catholic Parish

  4. Andreas says:

Many thanks, Leutgeb and Threehearts! As I have not found this hymn in the Austrian Hymnal (Gotteslob), it is one I hope to translate into German and introduce at Mass sometime soon.

  5. Eric says:

    Moving, truly

  6. MikeR says:

Went to Mass at the Oratory about a month ago, one of the high points of my UK visit.

  7. stuart reiss says:

Father Ronald Creighton-Jobe and the Fathers of the London Oratory, host the Rosary Crusade every year, on the Saturday closest to October 13th. Each year the numbers seem to grow bigger.

  8. MacCheese says:

This is very beautiful. It’s such a long time since I’ve heard the “Hail Holy Queen” sung like that…although its quite common in Ireland and U.K.
They also did a beautiful “Salve Regina”
We Catholics are so blessed to have Blessed Mother!

  9. edwar says:

Waving around their papers at the refrain, “Ave! Ave! Ave Maria!” That’s cool! I’ve never seen that done in USA. Americans should try that sometime.

  10. JonPatrick says:

edwar, we were in a rosary procession at St., John Cantius Chicago on August 13th and everyone did that (waved papers or handkerchiefs).

  11. ejcmartin says:

Oh I wish I knew about that in advance. I was in London later that day on my way home from Fatima. Would have been great. Lots of Rosaries prayed at Fatima. It was great to hear all the different languages, even in Latin.

  12. stuart reiss says:

    @Ejcmartin come next year…..
