So, what are lay Catholics to do? I have already dismissed Pope Francis as irrelevant even harmful to my salvation, I refuse to support the Archbishops Appeal due to an obvious lack of conscientious vetting of the fund recipients and I drive ten miles each way to attend a parish that is as traditional as a NO parsh can be.
I believe I, and only I, am responsible for attaining my salvation. I look to the good old Baltimore Catechism for guidance, I pray the Rosary often, when I can I pray the Liturgy of the Hours and of course I attend weekly Mass but as for listening Pope Francis and most clergy I take a pass, you and a rather limited selection of trusted clergy excepted.
This is why it is so important to know your faith, what the Church has always taught and practice your faith in all ways especially confession and the Holy Eucharist. These are confusing times for those who do not know what the Church teaches contrary to what bishops and priest teach. It is disheartening, discouraging and an absolute scandal at what what is going on in our Church, but Christ had his own Judas, hand picked by Him.

There needs to be a line drawn and soon. The cardinals and bishops are anticipating we will follow sheepishly as we have done in the past as our beautiful Catholic faith has been turned into the social justice wing of the church of “nice”. Years of “pay, pray, and obey” are bearing their fruit. A new, healthy course of action will be be to close the purse strings completely and force the bloated parish budgets to be reigned in to keep on the heat and the lights. The current culture is not what was envisioned by Jesus as the one, holy, catholic, and apostolic church. Every diocese, after the lawsuits against the priests and upcoming suits against abusive nuns, will have to file bankruptcy. Then and only then will the Church be able to rebuild. The Holy Spirit will prevail and the Church will be renewed. The pro-abort, gay marriage friendly, women priest wanting folks will find their way to the episcopal church and enjoy their symbolic grape juice and cookie communion offering while enjoying the feel good sermon that never challenges, but constantly reminds you that no matter what…you are going to heaven. We can no longer put up with two churches within the Church. It’s time to force the Church to get smaller. Close the purse strings…As hard a decision as we will ever have to make. I love the Catholic faith, my parish, our priest, but will give it all up to be able to worship the way Jesus intended.

i attend my childhood NO parish and volunteer a lot there to keep things as liturgically traditional as possible.
fortunately, we have a weekly Friday evening TLM said by our pastor and a few diocesan priests swing in for High Masses every now and then.
the priests NO priests in my life are very holy and pius men.
with great difficulty, i accepted my pastor’s insistence that the loss of the Faith is NOT caused by the change of the Mass.

however, i can’t believe it anymore and this article proves my gut right.
the change of the Mass is what unmoored the Faithful from “confessionally constricted Catholicism.”

I read this when it blew up on Twitter earlier today. Prophetic, sincerely.
How far is it from implementation of the ‘gradual, incrementally-implemented revolution’ of the St. Gallen group to apostasy? How bad would it have to be before it’s a Great Apostasy?
My late friend, the Rev. Dr. Malachi Martin, told me many times something along these lines would be attempted. When I would ask ‘when,’ he’d only say “some time after I’m playing a harp…” He also was familiar with McCarrick’s deep sexual corruption, but told me “McCarrick has his protectors”, including then Jesuit Cardinal Martini of Milan.
It is gratifying to see the truth unveiled again. There is nothing there that any of us weren’t convinced of by April 1, 2013. Any conscientious Catholic anticipated what was ahead on February 11, 2013.
What would be news would be to see a significant number of the episcopate call this out. It could have been done last week while they were in Rome. That would have been something accomplished out of the theater of the absurd.
When will they speak? Are the only one’s faithful the ones we are already aware of? I’m beginning to think so.
TLDR: The structural changes are not as important as the codification of false praxis and doxology. Don’t get hung up on synodality.
It is important to separate out the intended structural changes from the intended changes to doxology and praxis least one get trapped in a discussion over non-essentials. The exact functional structure of the Magisterium (both in its teaching organs and judicial organs) is not something of Divine Institution. That large functions of the Ordinary Magisterium and Magisterium of the Papacy, currently in the Curia and its Congregations, could be divested into a synodical structure, is not a hill to die on theologically. It is more of a political/philosophical issue. A late medieval monarchical model of the Church is not something that the Church has always exhibited nor need to now always exhibit, whatever our personal preferences.
That said, when I look at the structure that is trying to be implemented, I recognize it instantly as inherently bureaucratic. No one, or one group, is in charge rather problems are endlessly passed from one bureau to another. The name of the game is paperwork and endless meeting to endlessly discuss and pass on findings to the next bureau. Truly a situation of encounter and accompaniment through ineffectual self-perpetuating government that controls people through non-action.
Not necessarily a hill to die on either as the Church has suffered time and time again through ineffectual, indifference, corruption, etc. in the structure of the Magisterium.
The change to the structure of the Magisterium is just a vehicle by which to codify the change in praxis and doxology. Again, the danger is not the change in structure but the codification of false praxis and doxology. The Western Church* can survive bad and corrupt management but the codification will schism the Western Church. You simply cannot have “two sets of books”**. It will fragment and keep fragmenting as the Protestant communities have through different allegiances to an increasing number of different “sets of books”.
The bishops really need to have this fight because going along with the current is not the solution. And yes, having the fight will also likely create schism, but that is the cost of all the decades poor catechesis.

*The Western Church is being used here because if you look at what is going on, it has no impact on the Eastern Churches in so far as any modification of structure or praxis/doxology is being fostered upon them, as far as I have been able to read.
**There is already a real problem that there is an increasing number of vocal post-Vatican II Catholics being vocal about refusing to teach the Faith with anything that has come out of this current Magisterium. The streams are splitting apart.
As a former Protestant, I have seen Protestant communities split apart over less than this. The bishops need to stop doing nothing and assuming that Pope Francis II will restore orthodoxy and orthopraxy. He won’t because he is amongst them now and the deck is being stacked in his favor.

It seems that Ratzinger was writing quite a lot about a change in the Petrine office. That it could be divided into many leading the Church.

I cannot fathom this thinking. The architects of this revolution are attempting to cut off the very branch upon which they are sitting. A decentralized church means that they themselves will lose power and respect and therefore the further ability to influence/direct anything — let alone change anything further. To consign themselves to a lukewarm, powerless oblivion (with or without a collar) seems counter-productive. If they want plain old garden variety hedonism, it’s really not that difficult; it’s only one laicization away . . .
Or — are they just seeking to silence the only consistent voice of correction left in the universe? Like schoolboys who’ve begun to delight in evil and don’t want anyone stopping them or affirming their guilt, so they conspire to neutralize the authority by spin, hook, and crook (or . . . crosier?).
Nevertheless, the Lord will not be mocked . . . Let us pray for conversion of hearts with actions to match before it’s too late.
Kasper was wrong: there already IS a silent schism in the Church: I know it from two Priest friends who once only celebrated the Novus Ordo. They have left the Novus Ordo and now say private masses. One was a corporate attorney, who knows five languages, and they literally can’t take what’s going on in the Church now.

I believe it also means that the Cardinals who participated in preconclave discussions are ipso facto excommunicated. Can’t wait to see that fall out. (Think we already are…McCarrick) It could be a much smaller conclave next go around.
exsquid , I have felt this way for many years. Priests, bishops, cardinals, popes– they will come and go, good ones and bad ones. We do our best to be faithful in spite of change. God knows. God is there to help us, even if we feel the Church has let us down. The Church can sometimes help us be faithful to God, but the Church is NOT God. So it is God I remain faithful to, through all the twists and turns and hills and valleys of Church history.
scholastica, the election of popes has always been a political process, including side conversations, scheming, agendas, etc. I highly doubt anything was done in Francis’ election that was not also done in previous conclaves. Perhaps this is how the Holy Spirit works–through real humans and human processes (even if sometimes less than noble)?
Personally, I see much good in Francis and observe him trying to be faithful to the Gospel. I pray that God’s wisdom, strength, and mercy be central in his ministry and leadership.

This environment in the Church & outside of it does really seem to look like a Chess game in favor of the Anti-Christ walking in for takeover. The fact that Archbishop Sheen is being withheld from Peoria by NY to shadow his memoirs purportedly, brings to my mind just how many others that are going up for the cause of Canonization have their prophetic words buried under supposed “technicalities”
One such person comes to mind Father Aloysius Ellacuria. He had very colorful things to say about our times…
In any case I do hope the Faithful Shepard’s get a clue that it’ll take more than staying silent and looking down.
Do we really need to come to a “French Revolution” before everyone’s eyes open to save the Priests by hiding them? I think we need to come together for a #MAGA moment within the Church.
I also think since the UCSSB meeting last year was a prefiguring of this Summit in Rome. Anyone of those men that feel an ounce of Vigano should vocally go like that of St Stephen if need be. A line needs to be drawn. Too bad Archbishop Lefebvre hadn’t done it within the Church?
