I thought you might be interested in pictures from the Solemn High Pontifical Mass at the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, in Denver Colorado. 500 people were in attendance. Auxiliary Bishop of Denver, Most Rev. James Conley was the celebrant. This was the first Pontifical Solemn High Mass at the Cathedral Basilica in Denver in over 40 years. [Brick by brick!]

I hope the Archdiocese will continue to offer the extraordinary form of the Mass at the cathedral on a regular basis.
I attended this mass as well. It was very beautiful. I was hoping someone could explain why the bishop had 2 mitres. I noticed that one mitre was used for the procession and at the altar, and the other was used when not at the altar. I am less interested in what the rubrics are than what they mean and why we have them.

Beautiful Cathedral! Naturally though I am partial to the Cathedral Basilica of st louis, I mean…come on… I even catch visiting priests staring at the mosaics lol.
I noticed he had the whole vestments on, even the little white shoes. Very cool stuff! Look how packed it is… obviously there is a longing for something like this, even in more liberal parts of the country
The photo gallery is definitely worth seeing all the way through. It must have been a beautiful mass.
I note that Bp. Conley didn’t use the cathedra. Is this because he is the auxiliary bishop, and therefore technically a bishop of some other (extinct) diocese?

I first saw the St Louis Cathedral in the mid 70\’s and was impressed. Ten years later I went to St Louis for the Christmas party of the company I was working for (actually, it was only the regional party), and I once again went to the Cathedral. It had been changed so much that I thought that I was in the wrong place.
I think alot of people feel that way about churchs from the 70’s to the 80’s lol Kinda the whole point of the traditionalist movement that is growing. PLus if memory servers, alot of the mosaics werent completed till the early 80’s.

I couldnt see where his Crosier was being carried either? Is that not the norm for an auxiliary in the pontifical mass? I know when our auxiliary has visited our parish he has had his staff. Just curious.
So nice to see Fr. Gary Selin in attendance as well! I miss having him here in Virginia, but our loss is the Archdiocese of Denver’s gain!
Great pictures. I notice the wreckovation took out the alter rail. Otherwise, the high alter is terrific.
