Regarding the entry on indulgences, a reader sent this.
It is reputed to by Martin Luther’s very own receipt he received at Wittenberg. He wanted evidence against the Church selling plenary indulgences, and all he got was this.
Now.. I wouldn’t want to go out on a limb for that, but that is what I am told.
Sorry… I don’t know where it is from, originally. People send things without links and I just don’t have time to dig for the sources.
Still… this is fun.
Looks like you can create your own receipt for anything, here…

The other day I happened by a coffeehouse a short distance from the Denver Cathedral. The coffeehouse is named Indulgences, Etc. Game me a good laugh and a good cappucino.
I forgot to add the link. I got it from Mulier Fortis. http://mulier-fortis.blogspot.com/2008/06/proof_22.html
Mea culpa.
Hmmmmmmmm …. I’m wondering …. wasn’t the thaler the currency of Wittenberg around that time? I could be wrong, of course.
Coming from where he taught, Luther would love it
I think we’ve got a great opportunity to explain the Church’s teaching and practice of indulgences. For a generation that has bought into the concept of purchasing carbon offsets in order to restore balance to the ecosystem afflicted by the consequences of our “environmental sins”, acquiring indulgences as a kind of “personal sin offset” should be a no-brainer.
Hilarious!
Wir sind alle Bettler….
That one was mine, Fr Z. I used the websites mentioned by Frank H.
