“He [Satan] will set up a counter-Church which will be the ape of the Church because, he the devil, is the ape of God. It will have all the notes and characteristics of the Church, but in reverse and emptied of its divine content. It will be a mystical body of the anti-Christ that will in all externals resemble the mystical body of Christ. In desperate need for God, whom he nevertheless refuses to adore, modern man in his loneliness and frustration will hunger more and more for membership in a community that will give him enlargement of purpose, but at the cost of losing himself in some vague collectivity.”
“Who is going to save our Church? Not our bishops, not our priests and religious. It is up to you, the people. You have the minds, the eyes, and the ears to save the Church. Your mission is to see that your priests act like priests, your bishops act like bishops.”
- Fulton Sheen

A monthly subscription donation means I have steady income I can plan on. I put you my list of benefactors for whom I pray and for whom I often say Holy Mass.
In view of the rapidly changing challenges I now face, I would like to add more $10/month subscribers. Will you please help?

"But if, in any layman who is indeed imbued with literature, ignorance of the Latin language, which we can truly call the 'catholic' language, indicates a certain sluggishness in his love toward the Church, how much more fitting it is that each and every cleric should be adequately practiced and skilled in that language!" - Pius XI
"Let us realize that this remark of Cicero (Brutus 37, 140) can be in a certain way referred to [young lay people]: 'It is not so much a matter of distinction to know Latin as it is disgraceful not to know it.'" - St. John Paul II
Grant unto thy Church, we beseech Thee, O merciful God, that She, being gathered together by the Holy Ghost, may be in no wise troubled by attack from her foes. O God, who by sin art offended and by penance pacified, mercifully regard the prayers of Thy people making supplication unto Thee, and turn away the scourges of Thine anger which we deserve for our sins. Almighty and Everlasting God, in whose Hand are the power and the government of every realm: look down upon and help the Christian people that the heathen nations who trust in the fierceness of their own might may be crushed by the power of thine Arm. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with Thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end. R. Amen.

We are not hearing any news about surrounding towns. How far does the damage stretch?
The time indicates that services in Duomo were probably over when the quake struck.
_Deo gratias_ friends of mine in Genazzano near Rome were too far away from the epicenter and are OK.
Lord have mercy on those who died, still suffer and on their families. Amen.
Hopefully they were able to save the Blessed Sacrament.
We should all pray for those affected and see how we can get assistance to anyone in need in Italy.
The Basilica of Holy Souls (Sante Anime) was destroyed completely by an aftershock, which also hit Rome at about 7.45 p.m. this evening. It had been badly damaged by the earthquake itself. So far, 229 people have died, some 30 are still unaccounted for, 1,000 are injured, and 15,000 are homeless.
Anyone living in Italy can donate €1 to the rescue effort (Dipartimento per Protezione Civile) by sending an SMS to 48580, and the Italian Bishops’ Conference has ordered a national collection to be taken up in every parish church on Sunday 19th April. Please pray for all concerned, living and dead.
I am trying to find information, but I find none. Where did you find this out?
Strong aftershock felt in Rome and L’Aquila
2 hours ago
L’AQUILA, Italy (AP) — A strong tremor has shaken quake-hit areas of central Italy and sent rescuers and residents fleeing from damaged buildings in L’Aquila.
Chunks of concrete dropped from the buildings there and the shock was felt as far away as Rome.
Seismologists in Italy and the United States could not immediately assign a magnitude to Tuesday’s quake. The APcom news agency said it was between 5.5. and 5.7 on the Richter scale. The quake that struck Monday was 5.8-magnitude.

RE Surrounding towns, I heard, third hand, that Norcia felt the quake but sustained no damage. I am not sure how close it is to Aquila, but nevertheless, It cannot be too terribly far.
FWIW I have also heard that our fearless “dear leader” has pledged (for us) to give (the princely sum of) $50,000 to help with the relief efforts in Italy.
Do we have an online means of donating to the relief efforts? Can the Italian bishops conference put up a PayPal link or some such thing so we may help, as well? St. Joseph, pray for us. Our Lady, pray for us.
Has anyone heard news of the Duomo itself? I spent several months studying in Castelnuovo and L’Aquila, and met Archbishop Molinari several times. Every bit of news I get tears at my heart.
This is so sad…how many churches have collapsed from all this?
Lets pray for all those affected in this.
I’m thinking of all of the Marian and Saints’ shrines in the area: Our Lady of Good Counsel [Genazzaro], St. Gabriel of Our Lady of Sorrows [Isola de Gran’Sasso], St. Gerard Majella [Caposele], St. Bernardine of Siena [l’Aquila].
Does anyone know about the damage to those places?
Our Lady and all Italian Saints, pray for those affected…
