Something about that 45 year mark..wasn’t that also the number of years since the Solemn High Mass was celebrated on it’s High Altar in the National Basilica in Washington, D.C.?
More bricks! Deo gratias!

Amazing coincidence, huh? That the TLM seems to have ceased everywhere at the same time. Like darkness suddenly descended everywhere at once. Wonder what could have caused such a thing? (Seriously, there actually were varying time lags in the iron-fisted prohibition in different places.)
Grandes noticias para o Santuario de Fatima no dia depois das festas do Senhor Santo Cristo!!!
Being a Portuguese traditionalist (living on the 10th Azorean Island), this is great news indeed!
Deo Gratias!
Btw, is anyone going to broadcast or record this? I want a DVD of this Mass.
I can’t believe this – I might be in Portugal this fall for work – LAUS DEO!!
A couple or so years back, didn’t the Hindus or Bhuddists have their own “celebration” in the old Basilica? If that’s the case, wouldn’t the Basilica have to be re-consecrated?
gambletrainman-the ‘incident’ with the Hindus-no Buddhists were involved-happened at the Capelinha, the ‘little Chapel’, which marks the site of the Apparitions. That is outside of the Basilica. A regrettable incident, to be sure. I know there were trads who got their underwear in a knot over it-but there was no ‘celebration’ by the Hindus-just a prayer to Our Lady for peace. But again, a big lack of common sense on the part of the [now former] Rector of the Shrine, letting pagans into a Catholic chapel….and someone taking pictures and/or video of it!
Back on topic….oh, I’m sooo glad to hear about the St. John Cantius pilgrimage! And what an amazing coincidence, with the recent TLM at the National Shrine in Washington, and now in Fatima!
Brick by brick, indeed!
This is continued good news.
Those of us who lived through the post-Vatican II destruction and desolation vividly remember that 1965 was the year that politician-bishops initiated almost universally the extermination of Mass and almost all other Church tradition. Five years later, the so-called Missal Romanum 1970 promugating the novus ordo was a complete non-event in comparison, EXACTLY comparable to a peaceful declaration of General Government in Poland AFTER the violent destruction by German invasion had been completed.
It is profoundly sad that almost every one of the clerics and laity at the time accepted this with the courage, intellect, and care of lemmings. For those who did care, newchurch made it obvious that that it reserved no space, tolerated no accommodation. Those who cared either left, or were criticized, marginalized, sanctioned, and forced into irregular status.
Had the lemmings also left or resisted, it would not have taken 45 years for proper Masses to return.
