National Eggs Benedict Day … Coincidence?

A friend has informed me that, in addition to it being Pope Benedict’s 85th birthday, it is also.. and I didn’t know this… National Eggs Benedict Day.

Coincidence?  I think not.

Thus, I urge you all to make or to eat Eggs Benedict today.  If you wish, send in some photos.

I must go to the grocery store later and I will get ingredients.

To that end, I will shamelessly add my donation button because… I am shameless in the adding of my donation button.  I find that when I make it visible, donations come in.

I prefer Eggs Montreal actually. But I do love PB16 so I’ll make an exception. :)

Perfect! I couldn’t decide what to have for supper & I’ve never attempted Eggs Benedict. Our hens are outlaying our appetite these days (hard to do with 8 minis at home), so new egg recipes are always a treat. I think we still have some homegrown pot belly bacon in the fridge, and chives grow wild all over our yard…just need to get some muffins!

Country Benedict would work better for me. I would not enjoy undercooked eggs.

Of course, the talk of the Papal Household was the firing this morning of the nun who asked the Holy Father if he would like Eggs, Benedict! Such impertinence!

haha. Of course this is not a coincidence. You know how God planned things from Eternity.

But can I have mine with spinach and salmon? – the tough stuff referred to as “Canadian Bacon” is actually shoe leather, FYI.

Okay now I’m hungry. drat. Thanks a lot. I have no eggs.

Sadly I saw your post too late to rustle up Eggs Benedict today. It was chicken tikka naga at the Oval Brasserie this evening after Low Mass – more than edible, but probably not a dish on Pope Benedict’s “favourites” list. The last time I had Eggs Benedict was with Fr Michael Cahill at The Bull in Chislehurst where we took rooms after the celebrations for Fr Briggs’ silver jubilee. More breakfast than I usually have, but the hollandaise was good. Viva il Papa!

[What an honor that His Hermeneuticalness himself has commented! Since we shall be seeing each other in the first days of June, we can celebrate in a belated way this most auspicious occasion as well as, I hope, good news about the SSPX with some Eggs Benedict. We can invite a couple priest friends and I’ll make ’em.]

If you cook the s#% out of it it is, you mean.

Nothing like a well prepared Eggs Benedict, but often what is served in its name is inedible.

I would make eggs Benedict, but I don’t trust the eggs in my fridge. How far past the best before dates can eggs go before they’re no longer consumable?

  10. AnAmericanMother says:

    APX,
At least around here (we are close to the source) I’ve found eggs last a long time past the sell date.
Easy method to check: fill a saucepan or bowl with cold water and slip in the eggs gently. Bad eggs will float, if they are just starting to go bad they will tip up on end.and drift around (decomposition gases). I dump ’em if they don’t stay firmly on the bottom, but you can get away with the marginal ones.

Never had Eggs Benedict-but isn’t that cool to know that ‘National Eggs Benedict Day’ fell on the Holy Father’s birthday?
When I was a kid, I didn’t like eggs. In seventh grade Home Economics class we cooked eggs and had to eat them, but I didn’t want to (in fact, I kind of threw a preteen tantrum) and ended up staying after class because of it. I still refused to eat it back then….but now I like them!
In fact, I had an egg, black olive and cheese omelet for my Sunday dinner [supper]! I like my eggs nice and crispy.
