Father, if you’ve got a chance, I’d highly recommend doing a blognic at Boston’s oldest German restaurant and beer hall, Jacob Wirth (est. 1868 and looks it!). It’s a 5-min walk from Boylston Station on the Green Line.

Oh man! I’m trying hard not to be jealous. The first thing daughter #2 said when I said we were going to Boston (for the Solemn High Mass last night) was, “Are we going to see the Red Sox?!?” I told her no, a Mass, and she was crushed. But when I told her it was with you, she cheered up immediately. All 4 of my children think very highly of you, even more so now that they have met you! You are in our daily prayers.

Thank you for coming the Saint Paul’s to sing (very well even with the bronchitis) the Solemn High Mass and to give the talk. All the “Catcliffes” were there (except the cats). I couldn’t help but think how far the Latin Mass has come in Boston, because in the early 1990’s, we were forbidden to advertise the”indult” Mass. A Mass in Harvard Square with the Choirboys (who were never better, BTW), recorded by Catholic Television, was undreamt of. Very beautiful Mass – just a perfect combination of the music, architecture, disposition of servers and priest to offer the”mysterium tremendans et fascinans. Anyway, enjoy your time in Boston, and go Sox!

That’s not a martini, it looks like a frozen margarita. I’d say the beer is yours and a female fan is drinkin the rita. No offense to anyone but I can’t stand the Yankees or the Red Sox because that’s all ESPN cares about, although I wouldn’t pass up a chance to go to see a game at Fenway Pawwwk.
I’ve been to a Sox game! While my family are pirates fans (my dad is from pa), we couldn’t pass up the free tickets from my dad’s boss. Whenever him and his family can’t make it to a game they raffle off the tickets in the office. Almost right behind home plate on the first base path, it was awesome! I hope you enjoyed yourself Father! :)

What are we ever going to do with you??? There is only one game on Earth that is the perfect passtime for a faithful, Tradition-minded Padre like yourself….Cricket!! (Test Cricket of course, not that silly pyjama game, but the real thing) :-) the game they play in heaven…I do hope and pray that you will truly ascend to well rounded cultural habits by attending, or at least following the Ashes across the pond this July…The TLM, Test Cricket and Tea (properly bruewed leaf of course, preferably Orange Pekoe), Sublime!!
Anyway, may you gane some enjoyment from that other bat and ball sport.

And there he is, sitting in the most glorious baseball park ever built, the venerable Fenway Park. The lovely place where the best team in the world plays home games, and Big Papi resides, who just uttered the greatest words said yet about the murderous madmen who bombed the marathon. Big Papi is all heart, and I shall never forget his righteous indignation about what happened in his town! Look it up, but bear in mind, Big Papi’s being very direct, and spoke for millions of us. I echoed his sentiments in my heart.
Hope you had loads of fun Fr. Z.! That game played in our house too.

Ah, Just evangelisin’ friend :-), leaving off where the mighty (late) don Bradman left off (admittedly eighty years ago) in your fine land…
On a serious note, I expect the game and thoghts voiced by the player you mentioned was just what Boston needed in light of the horrid ordeal the city has endured this past week gone.
On a lighter note, there’s Lourdes, then there’s Lords…is my mission to convert the good Fr. Zuhlzdorf to the true gentleman’s game bound to fail before it has even begun??? :-)

A Baseball-Church story.
At mass last Sunday at a parish in NJ there were Little Sisters of the Poor (who are generally excellent), speaking and appealing for money (a good place for it to go).
Anyway, after mass I told one that there was a player on the KC Royals championship team of 1985 whose favorite charity was the LSotP, name of Steve Balboni. The response came back that in fact his sister is in the LSotP.
This weekend the newly minted Houston Astros, American League version, were in town. No disrespect intended for any Houston fans, but they weren’t much of a match for the Sox, too bad one of our more traditional rivals such as the Yankees weren’t there, even in their currently depleted state the Bronx Bombers would have put up more of a fight.
Aussie Marounite, I have watched a little cricket (on TV while I was in England) and have to say it has some of the slow paced, civilized appeal of Baseball, I could get into it if it were more common over here.
