Someone Else is Paying For This
Actually, the luxurious bus, with the outlandish and expensive paintjob, should alert everyone who sees it to the fact that “Someone Else is Paying For This.” A few elderly, habitless nuns (bless their hearts) did not pay for that bus. There are well organized, well financed, non-Catholic interests who are interested in displaying “Catholic” dissent, confusion and division. Some nuns are a little confused (bless their hearts).
I was abused by two nuns when I was a first grader yet I still support the LCWR to which their order now belongs. As with the clergy abuse scandal we know that the abusers were the exception. Also, most of the nuns who abused did so because they themselves were victims of abuse in their orders. I find it sad that some orders are returning to the retrogressive style that engendered that abusive mentality.
I really do have admire the creativity necessary to spin the repubican shutdown as being caused by the President, and pulling in women religious with a social conscience was very clever. Kudos!

Fr. Jim, I am sorry nuns abused you. It is surprising that you became a Catholic priest in spite of abuse by nuns.
It is clear our country is divided into two camps. That becomes clearer every day. But when I see a Catholic priest in the opposite camp, I admit, it makes my head spin a bit. I do not know how you can support nuns who tolerate or support abortion, homosexuality as a lifestyle, and their bizarre take on Catholicism. I don’t know how you, as a Catholic priest, can support a president who does the same. There are probably some dots to be connected here.
I am sorry you were abused in any way. No child should be treated poorly.

I would not be the first person to recognize that while my family is an abusive family, it is still my family. I had some great role models later on, particularly around 6th grade. My parents were very active and educated Catholics.There are two priests in my family. So I think the abuse from the nuns was balanced off. It was not sexual abuse although it was tantamount to emotional harassment with promises of “black medicine” if I ever had another tummy ache, and threats of breaking one of those yard-long pointers across my back if I ever had another tummy ache.
I don’t want to go down into the rabbit hole with the abortion issue or homosexuality because there have been other places here to grapple with those issues. I don’t think our president is a perfect president or even a great president, but in my opinion he was the best choice we had at the time of his elections. Obama is no Bill Clinton, nor is he “The One.”
On the other hand I think the women religious referred to here understand the complexities of the social issues that confront the nation and they aren’t conned by simplistic single-issue political discourse. I respect that.
FrJim I will say a prayer for Fr. Z. and for you and for all our Catholic priests tonight.

“retrogressive” didn’t cause that abuse, sin did. We have a daughter giving her life to Our Lord in a traditional Order of Nuns in that “retrogressive style”…going backwards all the way to Christ, our sons and daughters will carry on and preserve the True Faith. I’m sorry for you pain, Father.

What does that mean?
The barricades aren’t there to punish anyone or to keep them out to be dramatic. They’re there because we’d like those monuments not to be desecrated, vandalized, or injured by traffic when there’s no one to maintain, protect or control those who want to visit them. Too often in this city that includes those who would knowingly or even unwittingly cause them harm. Maybe it makes for good press to yell at NPS rangers for not allowing veterans to see their own monuments but the best way to prevent that is to provide for our cultural patrimony.
frjim4321: I was disciplined but never abused by “Nuns” who would now be on the Bus (RSM). I was also educated by Priests who would be on the bus (OSA). We enjoyed much mutual love and growth in my formative years and then I promptly lost my faith on graduation. It is precisely the lukewarm faith and liturgical abuse and OCP hymns which did it to me. Perhaps if I had been spiritually fed by those unlike you and yours, I would not have lost 11 years of my life to Luke 15:11-32.
Fr Jim, with all due respect, these women are heretics. I am so tired of the malice of people who will not obey the teachings of the Church, but yet call themselves “Catholic.” I respect Protestants or non-Catholics who cannot accept the Authority of the Church, because they don’t call themselves Catholic.
As for “simplistic single-issue political discourse,” we are our brother’s keeper. Abortion is murder and the blood of the innocents cries out to God. We must take any opportunity to denounce and fight against evil. The first right is the right to life. Each life has been willed by God and this terrible slaughter will not go unpunished. God is love and mercy, but He is also justice.
During the sexual social revolution of the 60 and early 70s, the nuns abandoned their habits and traded for a feminist liberation ideology (pant suits).
They abandoned their teaching vocation to children in Catholic schools and became vocal dissenters of Church teaching and traditional Catholic values and families.
A prime example of throwing the baby out with the water. As I witness the current landscape of lost Catholic schools now operating with secular values (CINO), it is this abandonement by the once faithful sisters that painfully fills my heart.

What retrogressive style are you referring to? Are you are referring to orders that lovingly adhere to the magisterium and wear the habit as a symbol of devotion to their faith in God?
Much has been learned since the 60s and 70s. The abuse by some is well known and not forgotten. I wager that these new orders of nuns to the faithful tradition are not deaf to the claims of abuse in the past and this memory will further inform their good development and avoid such traits.
It is common that those who spurn ‘Retrogressive’ are also promoting it’s opposite of ‘Progressive (modernism). Considering the formation and welfare of children, having a natural father and mother is now considered ‘retrogressive’ in this broken social construct. I’ll take the traditonal nuns any day for my children vs the progressive libertines who publically pride themselves in their personal selection about what they believe to be true or not about Catholic teaching.
