Cardinal Sarah — the next pope?
[That would be something!]
Oooo! Fr. Z please update us on your reading of Boethius’ Consolation as Poetic Liturgy along the way!
Fr. Fox, your question is pertinent to what happened to me last night when I began to read Cardinal Sarah’s book. I had read just a few pages (about his childhood in Africa) when I had a strong premonition that this man will be our next pope. My premonition may well be wrong but it was remarkably strong. Certainly at the pragmatic level Cardinal Sarah must be viewed as a leading candidate (subject of course to the duration of Francis’s pontificate). He clearly would delight orthodox Catholics, seems to have the strong support of Pope Francis, and has all the political benefits that go with being a black African (although of course that is a red flag to libertines). I have this really strong sense that Africa is rising. Maybe though — I hope not — it’s just wishful thinking.
There is a solidity and power about Cardinal Sarah that is really remarkable. I have a sense that he would make a fantastic pope.
All five look wonderful.
I just finished Cardinal Sarah’s book and thought the same thing!
I have just gotten to the chapter in Cardinal Sarah’s book where he has been recalled to Guinea, this guy has been through so much to get where he is. My goodness he is such a good, humble, and holy man! I watched his speech for the World Family Conference and couldn’t stop comparing him to Pope Benedict. He is clear, concise, courageous and a wonderful teacher of the faith. God bless him and protect and I hope sincerely he picks him to be the next Pope.
Impressive! I’d also be interested to know if Behold The Man is any good, if you ever get a chance for a quick update. Thanks!
And PS: Cardinal Sarah for Pope does have a nice ring to it, though Cardinal Burke still gets my (imaginary) vote for now.
Yes, do please give updates about Boethius – and Miles Hollingworth (coming from a classicist, is ‘inventing’ a wordplay?).
Does anyone know how Cardinal Burke is holding up? We are praying for him.
I’m about halfway through Cardinal Sarah’s book and I absolutely love it. He is such a humble and holy man, a model of what the episcopate can be at its best. Since the beginning, Africa has been the home of great Christians (St. Augustine comes to mind). I would love to see him as the next pope. Also, I was born the day St. John Paul II landed in Guinea for his apostolic visit, which I thought was pretty awesome!
