START TODAY! 54 Day Rosary For Our Nation – 15 August (Assumption) through 7 October (O.L. of the Rosary)

action-item-buttonCan we agree that our nation – I mean these USA – need some serious intervention and graces from God?  I fear that if we don’t change our collective ways, God will either intervene somewhat less gently.  Otherwise, He’ll owe Sodom and Gomorrah an apology.

My friend Fr Richard Heilman is spearheading a 54 Day Rosary Novena for our Nation.

What do you do?  Say the Rosary every day for 54 days.

This 54 Day STORMING of heaven through the intercession of Mary will take place from 15 August, the Feast of the Assumption, until 7 October, Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, Anniversary of the Battle of Lepanto.

I’ve written about Fr. Heilman pretty often. Lately I interviewed him in PODCAzTs.

The National Catholic Register wrote this up:

“I call this our Nineveh moment,” said Father Richard Heilman, assessing the situation in our nation in reference to the story of Jonah’s warning to a wayward people.

Father Heilman is spearheading a major spiritual initiative to turn the tide and heal the country — the “Novena for Our Nation.”

The “54-Day Rosary Novena” will begin on Aug. 15, the Solemnity of the Assumption. The faithful are asked to pray daily for the nation to return to holiness, through the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary on Oct. 7.

Knowing that Father Heilman, a priest of the Diocese of Madison, had experience with 54-day Rosary novenas through social media and that he recently launched the national Holy League, a group — including Father Stephen Imbarrato of Priests for Life — approached him to head this nationwide prayer campaign.

“They thought: ‘What better time than now, in this election year, the terrorism going on and the condition of this world and our nation, to do this,’” explained Father Heilman.

“All the signs are there,” said Father Imbarrato. “We have an immoral and corrupt government that is becoming more and more tyrannical. The fact of the matter is: We need a conversion of our culture, but, more specifically, of our elected officials or leadership. This 54-day novena and the Rosary Rally [on Oct. 7] is all part of the effort we need to end preborn child killing and attacks on marriage and the family.”

D.C. Rosary Rally

The Rosary novena will be capped off on Oct. 7 with a special “Rosary Rally” in Union Square in front of the U.S. Capitol in Washington, to call on the Lord for our nation’s spiritual restoration. The faithful across the country are encouraged to have a Rosary Rally in their areas, too — in a parish church, at a government facility or in front of a Planned Parenthood business, for example.

As Father Heilman said, “We should prefer not to go through suffering, but to do what the people of Nineveh did — repent and see a reparation for where we’re at right now.”

I signed up as soon a Father Richard H. posted – it’s nice to see it publicized ( but I am not surprised it’s you doing it, Father Z.)

Thank you for sharing the website. I heard it on the radio while driving, but I almost forgot about it. I am so thankful they will send out daily readings via email. It helps bring everyone together and is a needed daily reminder for me. It will be a challenge for me to say the Rosary daily, but I want to encourage others who might find 54 days overwhelming to just try it anyway.

I have a question about the novena that I didn’t find the answer to on the link. Our Lady’s words to young Fortuna are, “make three novenas of the prayers of the Rosary in petition, and three novenas in thanksgiving.” I understand it as the 54 days saying the Rosary are the three novenas of the prayers of the Rosary. What about the three novenas in Thanksgiving? How are those said?

  5. HeatherPA says:

If we already pray daily family rosary and pray for our country per OurLady’s request at Fatima, do we just ask to join our intentions with this one for the 54 day novena?
    Thanks, Father.

  6. JonPatrick says:

    I have signed up.

  7. Ellen says:

I will do this. I work in academia in the belly of the beast and what I hear often scares me to death.

  8. Mightnotbeachristiantou says:

I am signing up, but I really wish they had an app or something through YouVersion like they did for the week of prayer for Christian unity 2016. It was so more convenient than trying to find it in my email.

  9. Packrraat says:

Not sure I can do two of these 54 day rosary novenas at the same time. I am in the middle of one right now that a bunch of friends of Fr. Gordon MacRae are praying for justice for him and release from prison for him and Pornchai. I wonder if I can combine intentions for the 7 days that overlap.

  10. Joseph-Mary says:

You will be pleased to know that the Colorado Catholic Conference is also promoting this throughout the Denver Archdiocese.

  11. un-ionized says:

Packrraat, I would be surprised if you could not combine intentions in such an endeavor. God bless you.

  12. jselson says:

There seems to be so little left that one can do in the world to help guide us back to Christ as a nation. It is truly frightening to see how far we have fallen, and how many doors back to reconciliation we have shut.

All we have left is a supernatural response. So count me in!

  13. Packrraat says:

I was just on Archbishop Chaput’s column on Philly Catholic. Someone made this remark “The American Church, or maybe even the worldwide Church given what happens here impacts everyone, should officially organize/promote three days of prayer, fasting, and Eucharistic Adoration. It would be a tremendous witness to the world and a great way to turn lemons into lemonade…after all, it is the conversion and salvation of souls that we seek over all else.” I told them about this 54 Day Rosary Novena and invited them to join with us.

  14. Kerry says:

Healing Rose, if I may. These past many months the Mrs. and I have been learning to recite the Rosary in Latin. (So far so good: the Credo, Pater Noster, Ave Maria, Gloria Patri, and Sancte Michael Archangele. Hail Holy Queen is next.) It has changed our concentration for the good. Perhaps you may want to give it a go. The Latin seems to carry more weight than the vernacular. Plus the mispronunciations and word mix ups give some levity. The moral order of the country must be corrected.
Legend has it that the famous architect, Christopher Wren, who built St. Paul’s cathedral in London, came across a bricklayer and asked what he was doing. “I’m laying bricks, can’t you see?” He walked a little further and asked a second bricklayer, “What are you doing?” to which the brick layer replied, “I’m building a wall.” Moving on to the next bricklayer, he once again asked, “What are YOU doing?” to which the third bricklayer replied, “I’m building a cathedral for the glory of God!”

  15. un-ionized says:

Healing rose, the first half of the 54 day period is the petition part, the last half is the thanksgiving part. Three sets of mysteries times nine is twenty seven.

I said such a novena when trying to get into the Church. It worked.

  16. majuscule says:

    Kerry–

I second the use of Latin!

I started with the Divine Mercy Chaplet and that led me to wanting pray the rosary in Latin. I pray multiple mysteries and so far one is always in Latin and I’m working on the others. I really feel God appreciates the effort. (Just sayin’ that for myself! Your mileage will vary, as the saying goes.)

I also recite the Fatima Prayer in Portuguese, but I have a little experience with that language.

  18. Mike says:

The event website seems to have cratered, but you can still pray the Joyful Mysteries to start the novena.

  19. Elizabeth M says:

Forgive my ignorance, but what specifically are we all uniting our prayers for?
Simply “for America” or “peace” or “a better president” or “end of abortion” or “all of the above” or what? I’ve done the 54 day novena several times and Our Lady never fails to hear the specific request & answer.
Don’t get me wrong, more people praying is excellent! We need to unite in our petition too.
Still, we will pick up our beads and pray.

  20. Mike says:

. . . what specifically are we all uniting our prayers for?

From the website (now apparently over its hiccup): “The time is now to call upon God, through the powerful intercession of Our Lady of the Rosary, to heal our country and return it to holiness.”

  21. MaryW says:

You can count me in , Father. Daily emails from the website will be so beneficial.

  22. Ellen says:

Our parish is doing this. They are having public recitation in the afternoons. I will be at work but I say the rosary in the morning and will be able to go to the public one on the weekends.

  23. franciskoerber says:

    Hi All:

Today I composed an English setting of the rosary using the Traditional Psalm Tones for the purpose of praying the Novena. I am specifically dedicating it to the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Reparation since today a great offence was made against her in Oklahoma.

You can find the link here. I will be polishing this up over the next few days and weeks.

  24. Terry1 says:

The Feast of Assumption was celebrated at the Cataldo Mission in North Idaho, dating back to the 1850’s it is the oldest building still standing in Idaho. Bishop Peter Christianson re-consecrated the State of Idaho to the Immaculate Heart of Mary for protection in these times of trouble. 1200 rosaries were also distributed among an estimated 400-500 attendees.
