26 May 2021: Blood Supermoon Total Lunar Eclipse

Tomorrow, 26 May 2021, there will be a Blood Supermoon Total Lunar Eclipse. It will be visible from southeast Asia, across the Pacific, to the southwest Americas.
“Blood” refers to the color of the Moon during full eclipse.  Supermoon means that the Moon is closer to the Earth in its slightly elliptical orbit, and so appears larger.

At APOD, there is a quick time-lapse video of an eclipse from 2018.

So there will be this “Blood Moon” on Wed, 26 May, the Ember Wednesday after Pentecost?

I am reading the Mass of Ember Wednesday after Pentecost in the Angelus 1962 missal as part of my morning devotion (no TLM available to me today), and in the lesson, Acts 2:14-21, Peter, speaking to all of Jerusalem quotes the prophet Joel “…And I will show wonders in the heaven above and signs on the earth below… The sun shall be turned into darkness, AND THE MOON INTO BLOOD, before the great and manifest day of the Lord come.” (Emphasis added)

Coincidence? Chance? Or is there a message here?

As for me, penitence and the Rosary are the order of the day!!

Thanks for drawing my attention to this. I went online and found the details for viewing the eclipse from Jakarta. When the eclipse began the moon was still below the horizon where we were, and after the moon rose it was still obscured from us by nearby houses. Then suddenly I saw that it had risen above the roof of a nearby house, a dark reddish brown. According to the information I had found online, the eclipse was in the last few minutes of totality. We sat outside and watched the moon emerge from the eclipse.

Later that evening I was reading the Mass texts for Ember Wednesday and was struck by a phrase in the first lesson: “convertatur…luna in sanguinem”, “the Moon shall be turned into blood.”
