The Synchronized Hearts of Mary and of Jesus

In the Novus Ordo calendar, today – the day after the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus – is the Memorial of the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Before Mary conceived Our Lord beneath her heart, she conceived Him in her heart.

She began with her “Fiat!” to ponder – contemplate, inwardly gaze at – Him before His birth.

She gazed at and pondered Him after His birth.

She gazes at Him now.

Did you know that the hearts of mothers and their unborn babies tend to beat with synchronization?

Did you know that mothers and their babies hearts will swiftly synchronize when they smile at each other?

Imagine, for a moment, the smiles of Mary and Jesus as they regard each other.  Try to picture that.

Their hearts beat as one.

Very beautiful, Father. I didn’t know about the synchronization of the heartbeats of the Mother and child.

Perhaps this may add another avenue of contemplation on St Therese of the Child Jesus experiencing the Smile of the Virgin Mary.

About the heart synchronization thing, I actually wondered if this was the case in both of my pregnancies when I had my prenatal visits, but rather than it being the same, it was by a factor of 2. My first kid initially had a very high heart rate, greater 180 beats/minute, and mine was around 90. As time progressed, his and my hear rate slowed down a bit, but we retained that factor of 2 throughout. My second kid started with a slower heart rate, around 150 beats/minute, and mine was around 75.

Jesus and Mary are in the state of Original Innocence. It was not until Adam and Eve both ate of the forbidden fruit that their eyes were opened and they saw their nakedness from the loss of Original Innocence. They were no longer clothed in the robes of righteousness. I suspect that Original Innocence plays a major role in the special relationship between the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
