It is good to see Bishop Fernandes at St. Leo the Great oratory, and that he supports the work of the ICRSS. I remember him from my short time in seminary in Cincinnati. I am glad he is carrying on the devotion to Tradition he displayed there, and I learned much from his example. I am very lucky to reside in the Diocese of Columbus now during my time in medical school, and hopefully in residency. I will keep him, and the oratory, in my prayers.
How wonderful, what an excellent picture. God bless him and keep him.
Fr. Z:
Thanks for bringing this up. Kudos to this newer bishop who this past summer took a stand on beginning some clean out of the Catholic Student Center at Ohio State.
hwriggles4,
I remember reading about the OSU Newman Center situation in the local paper. I believe The Paulist Priests were there. For some reason, some of the longtime congregants were somewhat confused about Church Teaching. Bishop Fernandes took a beating in the press.
He didn’t flee for fear of the wolves.
Courage personified.
I reside within this diocese, and we are very blessed to have this man as our bishop.

Last weekend Dcn. Trevor Fernandes gave the “homily” (I’m not sure whether it’s the correct term in this instance) at the TLM Requiem Mass for Pope Benedict XVI held at Assumption Grotto in Detroit.
I had never heard of him, but was told he lived in Ohio. When I searched Google, I discovered the deacon is Bishop Earl Fernandes’ brother.
The article published in Columbus after his episcopal ordination is here: https://catholictimescolumbus.org/news/doug-bean-25eff3c4-ec24-452b-acd4-427d4c0bf403/bishop-s-siblings-not-surprised-about-appointment
There’s a detail I think readers will find interesting about the father of two men, of recent memory.
How did this guy slip through? Nuncio is going to get a scolding when Francis finds out.
My Bishop, the Most Rev. James Checchio of Metuchen, NJ, will be coming to sit in choir at our Sunday TLM for the First Sunday of Lent. We are very excited!
