FrZ this is a much missed equestrian statue of the Italian Carabinieri in their formal dress uniform. It is located close to Vatican City in fact the Vatican wall is less than 100o feet away — that part of the Vatican wall that sees scores of visitors lined up for hours during the summer months to get inside the vast Vatican Museums complex. But the museum of the Carabinieri is located across from this statue and for military buffs its worth seeing. If you were the photographer taking this picture and you turned to your left you could stroll down one of Rome’s finest contemporary shopping streets, the via Cola di Rienza.
On the right side of the museum is via Crensenzio, which is another good, less commercial, strolling street, and it will take you the Atlante Garden hotel which has a great roof top restaurant and tremendous views of St Peter’s and the Roman skyline. Worth a visit and you can have a great lunch too.
FrZ thanks for these photos. My wanderlust is stirring.
