I used to observe this feast by using the appropriate common in the Liturgy of the Hours… until Blessed John Paul the Great was beatified… and just last week, the Holy See approved the USCCB’s decision of last year to add his feast to the US calendar as an optional memorial.
I wonder when I could transfer the feast of Saints Nunilo and Alodia and recite it as a votive office…?! So many saints, so few days in the year!
I am not sure what would be considered typical food in Huesca. wikitravel.org suggests chicken with red peppers or “Ternasco” a local lamb dish. I think paella would be found closer to the Med, but it may be the closest I can get to it in Texas. :-)

But that is merely an optional memorial, so in communities where Ss. Nunilo and Alodia is one of the Great Feasts, Bl. John Paul II need not be observed.
