22 June: Manhattan, NYC – Holy Innocents – Talk by dom Alcuin Reid

I received word of a great opportunity for those of you within striking distance of Manhattan. This, from a friend:

Dom Alcuin Reid, noted author and liturgist, will present a talk this Sunday, June 22nd, at the Church of the Holy Innocents in Manhattan (37th Street between Broadway and 7th Avenue). His talk will follow Solemn Vespers and Benediction at 2:30 pm. Fr. Richard Cipolla will introduce Dom Reid. His talk is entitled “Elements of the New Liturgical Movement.”

Dom Reid is a monk of the Monastère Saint Benoit in the Diocese of Fréjus-Toulon in France. As Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger, Pope Benedict XVI wrote the preface for Dom Reid’s influential book on the history of the Liturgical Movement up to the reforms of Pope Pius XII, The Organic Development of the Liturgy. Dom Reid’s new book is entitled Sacred Liturgy.

Dom Reid will also speak on Friday, June 20th, at 7:30 pm at the Church of St. Mary on West Avenue in Norwalk, Connecticut.

You all know that Holy Innocents has been the topic of a lot of discussion.

Perhaps you might, in your goodness, make plans to attend not only to hear what will be a good talk (I’ve heard Reid… he’s good), but also to give support to Holy Innocents.

“Social Justice” is a catch word for something that I want and therefore the government should provide.

I would add: With someone else’s money.

Also, Norcia was mentioned!  Great beer.  They are having an impact on the town.

Producing and selling things can be a way of serving people.

BREAKING: NANCY PELOSI EXCOMMUNICATES ARCHBP CORDILEONE

From the often amusing Eye of the Tiber:

Washington, DC––In an astonishing move today, Minority Leader of the House of Representatives and Mouthpiece of God in the United States Nancy Pelosi has excommunicated San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone.

The move comes just a day after Pelosi sent Cordileone a letter asking him not to attend the National Organization for Marriage march in Washington D.C., calling the event “venom masquerading as virtue.” In response to the letter, Cordileone issued a response saying that the March for Marriage “is not anti-LGBT, but rather, it is a pro-marriage march.”

The letter of excommunication begins with Pelosi regretfully informing the San Francisco bishop that, due to actions displaying disdain and hate towards LGBT persons, “I, Nancy Pelosi, Mouthpiece of God Almighty, Secretary of Defense Against Bigotry, Director of the Office of Tolerance, and Ambassador to the Alpha and the Omega, hereby impose a ferendae sententiae, excommunicating you from my Catholic Church. I ask you to ‘evolve’ and to mend your bigot ways.”

“We separate him, together with his accomplices and abettors, from the precious Body and Blood of the Lord and from the society of all Christian people,” Pelosi told EOTT as she stroked the point of her long red tail. “We exclude him from our Holy Mother the Church in Heaven and on earth; we declare him excommunicate and anathema; we judge him damned, with the Devil and his angels, to eternal fire until he shall recover himself from the toils of the Devil and return to amendment and to penitence. So be it!”

At press time, Pelosi’s uncle, Screwtape, is very proud of her.

Hmmm… where have I heard that… no matter.

I rather like the sound of “Pelosi” and “excommunicate” in the same sentence.  Now if we can just get the words in the right order.

Acton U 2014: Opening Night

I am in Grand Rapids, MI for the annual gathering of Acton University, several days of lectures and presentations on many topics. People of various faiths come from all over the world for this. When I picked up my registration pack, I already saw familiar faces.

My View For Awhile

Off I go for another adventure.

20140617-061711-22631171.jpg

I awoke to the sounds of thunder and a civil defense siren last night. I see that there was a tornado somewhere. I have yet to learn the details.

I am aware that a town in Nebraska was hard hit yesterday. Once again, dear readers, do some prep and go to confession. It is always some else’s turn … until it is yours.

UPDATE (waiting for the doors to close):

I had an email, already, asking whether my adventure involved a dragon in a lonely mountain.

Fishwrapers would think so. In fact, they’d skip waaaay ahead and say I was going into Mordor itself.

Acton Institute’s big summer conference.

But…. no, that analogy doesn’t work. I would then be the good guy.

UPDATE:

Dodging weather, so far. Now in beautiful Detroit, a case study for the need for free and virtuous enterprise marketers.

Statements of Two Archbishops, Cordileone and Carlson

Two Archbishops, of cities with unmistakably Catholic names, have been under the gun and have used social media to make statements.

First, Archbp. Salvatore Cordileone has responded to call from extremists that he not attend an entirely correct and normal demonstration in favor – it is hard to believe that we have to demonstrate in favor of this – normalcy, that is, marriage, that is, a nuptial bond between a man and a woman. (NB: man and woman – different sexes)

His statement, released by the Archdiocese of San Francisco, is HERE

Among other things, Archbp. says:

The March for Marriage is not “anti-LGBT” (as some have described it); it is not anti-anyone or anti-anything. Rather, it is a pro-marriage March. The latter does not imply the former. Rather, it affirms the great good of bringing the two halves of humanity together so that a man and a woman may bond with each other and with any children who come from their union. This is precisely the vision promoted by Pope Francis, who recently said, “We must reaffirm the right of children to grow up in a family with a father and mother.” Rest assured that if the point of this event were to single out a group of individuals and target them for hatred, I most certainly would not be there.

Next, the Archbishop of St. Louis, has responded to distorted reporting about a deposition he gave.  Reports, especially from the Left, tried to make everyone leap to the conclusion, and only to the conclusion that somehow – and it is hard for me to imagine that he would have to demonstrate this – Archbp. Carlson didn’t know, way back when, that it is wrong for adults to have sex with children.  Does that even sound right?

There is a video, HERE

From Archbp. Carlson’s letter to the flock in St. Louis:

Sexual abuse of children is deplorable and is never to be tolerated. Actions speak louder than words and my record on this issue speaks for itself. I am committed to the safety of children and have shown compassion for victims. I have promoted and enacted codes of ethical conduct, extensive safe environment programs and ongoing training for clergy to heighten their awareness of this issue.
In the deposition last month, I misunderstood a series of questions that were presented to me. I wish to clarify that situation now. I fully understand, and have understood for my entire adult life, as I stated in other sections of this same deposition, sexual abuse is a grave evil and a criminal offense.
I reiterate my commitment to protect children from sexual abuse. I support mandatory child abuse reporting laws, to which the Archdiocese strictly adheres.

It is a pity that we have to waste our time on these things.  And yet, here we are.  We have to waste time on these things because the attacks are not just on the two men, the two Archbishops, the attacks on on the Church and on the truth.

The Devil is on the March.

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world  seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

Mary, Queen of the Clergy…

The motive of the murder of Fr. Walker and assault on Fr. Terra

In one story about the arrest of the man suspected as the murderer of Fr. Kenneth Walker in Phoenix, I read this:

PHOENIX (CBS5) –
The person who brutally attacked two Phoenix priests might have a lot of anger toward people and things associated with religion, a Phoenix Police Department spokesman said.

[…]

The violent nature of the crimes – the Rev. Kenneth Walker was shot multiple times and the Rev. Joseph Terra was brutally beaten – leads police to believe the attacker is angry at churches, priests or religion in general, said Sgt. Darren Burch of the department’s Silent Witness program.

Burch said there was a lot of anger and venom involved in the attacks in the rectory of the church on Wednesday.

[…]

Burch said the attacker might have previously outwardly exhibited anger toward religion or priests but might have become more withdrawn and not as visibly agitated since the attack.

[…]

We do not yet know the motive with clarity.  Police suggested that it was, in part at least, a crime of opportunity.

However, if … if… the perp killed Fr. Walker our of hatred for the Christian religion, or for priests, or for some aspect of the Faith and how it must be lived, then there is an additional and important act to reflect on.

Until we know a lot more, we can merely keep our eyes peeled for more information and go about our business.

BREAKING: Arrest made in the murder of Fr. Walker – UPDATED

There is forensic evidence that connects the suspect to inside the rectory and inside the Fr. Walker’s vehicle which he stole.

There is a Requiem this morning.  Around that same time there is supposed to be a presser.

More from AZCentral.

Phoenix police confirmed the arrest of a suspect in the murder of Father Kenneth Walker, a Phoenix police spokesman said Monday morning via social media.

A Phoenix police spokesman confirmed that investigators arrested a 54-year-old man with a history of aggravated assault and misconduct involving weapons on suspicion of killing the 28-year-old priest found dead in a rectory near downtown Phoenix last week.

The spokesman confirmed the arrest of Gary Michael Moran hours before Valley residents honored Walker with a requiem Mass.

Moran was released from prison in April after having served the majority of a 10-year sentence for burglary and aggravated assault, according to court records.

Walker was murdered late Wednesday night in the rectory of a Catholic parish west of downtown Phoenix.

Phoenix police collected physical evidence from the Catholic church Walker was killed and another critically injured Wednesday night, but investigators spent the weekend developing more information about the crimes.

UPDATE:

News conference video HERE

The man who was arrested is a seriously bad citizen.

UPDATE:

Fr. Terra at the Requiem of Fr. Walker.  I’ll bet that took some effort.

Renew your prayers for both these men.

Nancy “the Theologian” Pelosi scolds Archbp. Cordileone

Abortion Absolutist Democrat

I just saw this and I actually laughed out loud.

You may remember Nancy from her triumphant theological debut.  HERE and HERE

And remember her comment that abortion is “sacred ground”? HERE

Remember that she, as the darling of big-business-abortion Planned Parenthood (dedicated to killing off minorities for profit), accepted the Margaret Sanger Award? HERE

SFGate has it:

Nancy Pelosi urges S.F. archbishop to exit marriage march

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi took the lead this week in a high-profile lobbying effort to pressure San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone not to attend the controversial March for Marriage event, which she characterized as “venom masquerading as virtue.”

Pelosi, who is one of the country’s most powerful [pro-abortion absolutist] Catholic politicians, made a passionate appeal to the archbishop in a letter obtained by The Chronicle not to participate in the National Organization for Marriage’s June 19 march on the Supreme Court in Washington.

Cordileone, who is one of the featured speakers at the event, was a leader in the campaign for Proposition 8, the 2008 California anti-gay-marriage initiative.

“We share our love of the Catholic faith and our city of San Francisco,” Pelosi wrote to Cordileone, who, as head of the 560,000-member Archdiocese of San Francisco, has become the Catholic bishops’ point man against gay marriage. She urged him to abandon an event in which some of the participants show “disdain and hate towards LGBT persons.”  [If that’s what Pelosi says, you can be sure the event is exactly the opposite.]

Invoking the words of Pope Francis with regard to gays and lesbians, she wrote, “If someone is gay and is searching for the Lord and has good will, then who am I to judge him?” [?!?…. and?]

The goal of the second annual March for Marriage is to draw thousands of supporters of what they call “traditional marriage” [you can almost hear the sneer…. “what they call…”] to walk from the U.S Capitol to the Supreme Court. Conservative former presidential candidates Mike Huckabee and Rick Santorum, as well as Cordileone, are being billed as the star speakers.

[…]

Is there some initiative out there in support of Archbp. Cordileone? I am itching to create an ACTION ITEM.

Can. 915 needs to be applied to this scandalous wreck of a Catholic.

Islamic State of Iraq and Syria? Are you ready for what is coming?

I just saw images of the works of militants of the Religion of Peace spreading across Iraq, as they push for an Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

They put people into ditch with their arms tied behind their backs and shot them. HERE More info HERE. And there is a video of militants shooting men in the head and body as they kneel. [WARNING: Horrific graphic violence – do NOT watch if you are weak of stomach or anywhere near children. That said: HERE)

Ladies and gentlemen, the Religion of Peace….

ISIS executioner killed three men for failing his Qur’an quiz

Christians are fleeing.

Meanwhile, in Syria, they crucified some guys for speaking against ISIS.  HERE

An unarmed populace ground under the heals of ideological extremists.  It is amazing how fast terror can spread.  Amazing, but not surprising, given the devices of the Enemy of the soul.

Meanwhile, in these USA, in my native place…

Minneapolis FBI investigating Muslims joining jihad groups in Syria, including ISIS

Are you ready for what seems to be coming?

Fathers, have your people pray and prepare.

Sts. Nunilo and Alodia, pray for us.
