One of the participants is going to call to let them know we are descending on them so there may be a room for us.

The Dubliner is located within the Phoenix Park Hotel one block from Union Station which has DC Metro and Amtrak.

I think this would be best because, I am told, the area around Col. Brooks, also recommended, was perhaps a little rough for people who have to walk.

There may be some live Irish music later.  I don’t know about Chinese opera.

The Dubliner seems to be just a few Metro stops away from Catholic University where the Shrine is.

It is on the Senate side of the Capitol and the Senate won’t be in session.  That will help with parking.   It is not in walking distance of the Shrine, but it is not hard to reach.

Remember: Blognics are not formal.  They are not sit down meals.  People come and go between the start and end times established (we still have to do that, btw).  You pay for your own drinks or food or snacks…. or for someone elses as you choose.  No expectations other than to come and meet other people who happen to be readers of this or other blogs.

Other bloggers please participateThis is a blognic, after all.

IMPORTANT PUBLIC TRANSIT ALERT FOR THOSE IN DC THIS WEEKEND:
For those planning on taking the Metro to the Shrine on Saturday, please know that due to track work, the trains may be running up to 40 minutes late. The red, blue, and orange lines are affected. Please plan accordingly.

Will this Mass be televised on the internet? I just checked the EWTN website, and no mention is made of the broadcast. Even though I live in Virginia, about a 2 hour drive from DC, I will not be able to make it, but I will be free towatch it on the internet, if it is shown. By the way, I do not have a tv set.

    Another Public Transit Note:

The Dubliner seems to be just a Metro stop away from Catholic University where the Shrine is.

Almost – actually three stops down. You get on the Metro at Brookland/CUA going toward Shady Grove, then down three stops to Union Station. And the Dubliner is a short walk from there.

  5. Boots says:

Great spot, the two pubs right there get swamped for the March for Life!

  6. wanda says:

gambletrainman, The Mass will be televised on EWTN. I checked with the Paulist Institute who have been instrumental in the planning of the Mass. I don’t know about the internet, however. I hope you can get to see it!

  7. wanda says:

What is the black and white square, grid, maze thingy in Fr. Z.’s post?

  8. Henry Edwards says:

gambletrainman: If you check the EWTN schedule for April 24 at

    http://www.ewtn.com/tv/NA_041810.asp

    you’ll see the entry

EXTRAORDINARY FORM OF THE MASS IN HONOR OF THE 5TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE INAUGURATION OF POPE BENEDICT XVI
    LIVE

    listed in the 12:30-3:30 pm

time slot. So if you select Live TV on the EWTN home page, you should be able to watch it on the internet.

Ah good ol Wayne and Schuster, a couple of Canada’s finest.

For those that might not be able to walk any distance, the 80 bus line also runs right in front of the Basilica to across the street from the Dubliner (literally 200 feet away). You would want to catch the 80 on the same side of the street as the Basilica going towards the Kennedy Center and get off at the corner of N. Capitol and Massachusetts Ave. NW.

  11. DdC says:

Dear Wanda, that’s for verizon’s Droid phone. you can put the phone up to the image and download info. Kinda Weird, eh?

This following Comment is correct for Metro directions to Dubliner!!

Checked wmata website: http://www.wmata.com/ Bottom of home page. “Signup for e-alerts” you can sign up there for info on delayed trains and have txt msgs sent to your phones. It is great especially if there are disabled people that need elevators-u can find out when elevators are down before you go all the way to a certain station. Couldnt live or travel to DC without it!

Enjoy, wish I was going to be there!! Doctor says no go so plz pray for me while you are at Mass.

To Wanda and Henry Edwards. Thanks. I just went onto the site (apparently I was in the “right church, wrong pew” earlier) and added it to the “My Favorites” section, so it will be easier for me to get to tomorrow. Thanks again.

  13. TNCath says:

I wish I could be there! I will be tuning in via EWTN and participating at a distance! Have a wonderful blognic.

  14. wanda says:

DdC, gambletrainman, I was so relieved to find it was being carried by EWTN. I’ll be recording the Mass tomorrow as I have a few things that call me away. But I so look forward to watching it. The buzz is palpable here at Fr. Z.’s place. May all be blessed and come away with graces abounding. (And those who tune in by TV and internet.)

p.s. That grid thing is weird. Way out of my ballpark, I’m afraid. Thank you for cluing me in!

  15. wanda says:

A pardon me and a duh on my 6:04! It is the Paulus Institute, not the Paulist Institute. My bad.

  16. wanda says:

Actually, since it is talk like Shakespeare day..

I doeth beg pardon for my err’ so grave. Prithee kind Sirs and Dames thy pities on this poster in haster. (?)

  17. Lucas says:

We won’t be making it. The dubliner is no place for kids. (At least in my opinion) Any chance we might get to meet you post Mass somewhere at the Shrine Father?

  18. PostCatholic says:

Regrets. Perhaps the next time you’re in town, but I have a wedding to attend. Enjoy the city.

  19. Andrew says:

I am looking forward to when you will come to Australia, and do a blognic in Melbourne! But I hope the Pontifical Mass with Bishop Slattery goes really well Fr Z, and that it will be a fun meeting with WDTPRS contributors.

  20. Andy Milam says:

I love the Dubliner….unfortunately, being in Iowa, I won’t be able to be there. When I was going to the Mount, we’d go down into DC every other week or so, and we’d always stop for lunch and a beer there….enjoy the blognic….have a pint for me…

I’ll be looking for Fr. Z when I watch the Mass….

    God Bless

  21. New Sister says:

Andy and Gambletrainman – you will probably find the narrator’s voice on the EWTN broadcast quite familiar :-)

  22. wolfeken says:

I’m looking forward to this. There are a lot of fun, social young adult Catholics in D.C. — and I’ll make sure many of them are at the Dubliner after today’s Mass. See you there!

  23. JoyfulMom7 says:

Alas, family obligations prevent me from attending both the Mass and the Blognic. I shall be with you all in spirit! Tina in Ashburn, have a drink for me, okay? (And be sure to order cuaguy a glass a milk from Mama Joyful!)
