The newly made cappa magna for tonight’s pontifical Mass was removed from it’s box, and unfurled in the sacristy.

  4. SonofMonica says:

It’ll be sure to keep the dissenters away.

  5. medievalist says:

Argh! The cappa magna! How my liberal eyes burn and weep. [MWUAHAHAHA]

  6. irishgirl says:

    Yeah, SonofMonica-especially the priestess wanna-bes!

They’d freak out if they saw this!

    I love the cappa magna!

  7. momoften says:

I wish I could see it in person. I love to look and examine vestments that are EXTRAORDINARY! And that is so magnificent!

  8. Mitchell NY says:

    I hope I can get there by 7 !!!

  9. SonofMonica says:

Wonder if any of the NPR fishwrap types have ever seen Paul VI in a mantum…

I love it. Cappa magna orders must be through the roof these days. Cappa Magnamart will soon be coming to your neighborhood.

  11. By the way, anyone note anything odd about that first photo?

  12. Flambeaux says:

Pontifical gauntlets in fuscia/Roman Purple but the Cappa appears to be in a different color?

  13. irishgirl says:

Who is going to wear this?

We want to see a picture, Father Z!

  14. Supertradmum says:

    Waasn’t folded?

  15. Nathan says:

Aren’t pontifical gloves donned when the archbishop vests for Holy Mass, not when he processes into the church wearing the cappa magna? And shouldn’t they be white, in that case, given that today is the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus?

    In Christ,

  16. Nathan: Yes, indeed, today’s gloves should be white.

Those were just something else included in the order.

    Good catch.

  17. Athelstan says:

I think I just heard some more heads exploding at U.S. Catholic and National Catholic Reporter.

Or at least explosive premotion. To complete the act, we do need to see big full photos of the cappa magna being worn.

  18. SidMJr says:

    But the great question is:

    “Who made this cappa magna?!”

    ;-)
