  2. racjax says:

God bless his soul for giving our Church this group. We became aware of this Vatican approved ministry while trying to support one of our nieces. She was able to attend one of their national meetings. I pray that Archbishop Gomez will recognize and promote this ministry in the LA diocese.

  3. Andy Milam says:

Thank you for all your work in promoting disinterested friendship and helping all of those afflicted with homosexuality overcome their deep-seated tendencies. You showed nothing but acceptance with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. You avoided every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard. You helped many to fulfill God’s will in their lives and, if they be Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord’s Cross the difficulties they may encounter from their condition. You showed that homosexual persons are called to chastity. You taught that the virtues of self-mastery lead to inner freedom, at times by the support of disinterested friendship, by prayer and sacramental grace that they can and should gradually and resolutely approach Christian perfection.

We should follow your example. Pray for us, as we pray for the repose of your soul.

    May the angels lead you into paradise;
may the martyrs come to welcome you
and take you to the holy city,
    the new and eternal Jerusalem.
May choirs of angels welcome you
    and lead you to the bosom of Abraham;
and where Lazarus is poor no longer
    may you find eternal rest.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon him.

May the soul of Fr. Harvey rest in eternal peace.
92 years old….wow! I hope that Courage will continue its good work.

  5. Supertradmum says:

God rest his soul. He was a good man. Many years ago, I tried to start a Courage group on a Catholic Campus. We had many homosexuals and lesbians among the student body, more than usual, for some reason. I put out information and used my own bulletin board for advertising. Overnight, another member of the faculty took it all down, threw it all away and put up “Rainbow” pro-gay rights “Catholic” group stuff. I am sure the dear priest, Father Harvey, experienced greater spiritual warfare than this episode. God bless him for his own courage.

  6. Maria says:

A truly Blessed and obedient Servant.

  8. Father DiMaria says:

Father Harvey was the Sunday assistant at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Springfield, PA for many years. It was during my time as the curate at St. Francis that I came to know Fr. Harvey. I would always look forward to his weekly visit. He would arrive on Saturday evening, stop by my room for a chat and then head to his room for the night. He was always gracious, kind and gentle. A true disciple of his patron St. Francis de Sales! I met Fr. Harvey while he was in his 80s and was astonished at the level of zeal and commitment he exhibited. May he rest in peace!

    God bless Fr. Harvey!

The Oblate site in Childs, MD is already memorable for its roadside shrine of “Our Lady of the Highways” visible from I-95, so travelers — at least in the northbound direction — will have an opportunity to remember to pray for Fr. Harvey as they pass.

  14. Magistra Bona: An old priest has died. Side-tracking the discussion is inappropriate.

  15. jaymcnally says:

More than a decade ago Fr. Harvey came to Michigan for several days to campaign against “sexual identity” ordinances in several Michigan cities at the invitation of the American Family Association of Michigan. I was honored to spend most of a whole day with him in the city of Royal Oak.
Fr. Harvey was remarkable in every regard, and tireless. He gave talks to various groups that sometimes included hostile hecklers and was eloquent in his commentary to the media. One interview ran a full hour on Detroit’s top radio talk show.
In looking at his influence, it’s amazing how much good one priest can do.
    He will be deeply missed.

  16. tbhamdg says:

It was my honor and privilege to have known Fr. Harvey. He was truly a saintly priest and servant of God. May God reward him for his love and fidelity. Requiescat in pace.

My then-fiancée and I were privileged to meet with Fr Harvey, and our marriage has benefited from the counsel he gave. We remember him here. May he rest in peace.

  19. QMJ says:

    + Eternal memory.

  20. Caroline says:

I saw his story quite by mistake on EWTN one night. It had a profound impact on me. What kindness
and gentleness emanated from his smile.

Eternal rest grant unto him Oh Lord.

Fr. Harvey spoke to us at Holy Apostles Seminary, my first year in sem., some 28 years ago. And, we have a Courage group in my parish. God bless Fr. Harvey for his work with people of same sex attraction – May he rest in peace!

  22. Andrew says:

Fr Harvey made a few visits to Australia, going as far back as 1980, I believe. Courage exists here in a number of Australian cities, a tribute to this very holy, committed and humble priest.

We pray that now he will intercede for all people who have to deal with a same sex attraction, and accept the Church’s “tough love” on the matter of chastity, as Fr Harvey used to say.

But it is also a reminder to us all, that it doe s not matter what our station is in life, we are all called to chastity.

It is because chastity today is so little in vogue, that we have AIDS and abortion.

May you rest in peace Fr John, for bringing home to so many the timeliness of this message.
