PRAYER REQUEST: Msgr. Ignacio Barreiro

A long-time acquaintance, Msgr. Ignacio Barreiro, needs your prayers.  He is ill with cancer.  He underwent a surgical procedure recently and, as I understand, it didn’t go so well.

Msgr. Barreiro has been in the trenches promoting the Extraordinary Form for very long time.  He is also heading up Human Life International’s office in Rome.  Great credentials, those.

Done. Offering up rest of my day for him and some prayers. God bless him and you. Love the photo.

Just sent up a Hail Mary for the good Monsignor, Father Z!
What a cool photo of you with him!

  4. dep says:

O great St. Peregrine, you have been called “The Mighty,” “The Wonder-Worker,” because of the numerous miracles which you have obtained from God for those who have had recourse to you. For so many years you bore in your own flesh this cancerous disease that destroys the very fiber of our being, and who had recourse to the source of all grace when the power of man could do no more. You were favored with the vision of Jesus coming down from His Cross to heal your affliction. Ask of God and Our Lady, the cure of the sick whom we entrust to you, Msgr. Ignacio Barreiro. Aided in this way by your powerful intercession, we shall sing to God, now and for all eternity, a song of gratitude for His great goodness and mercy. Amen.

Sad news for the former UN diplomat. He was a good friend in my Roman years–I still have a copy of his tesi in my library.

I wonder whether he had his surgery in Italy.

  6. Andy Milam says:

Done. I have added him to both my lists of priests and the infirmed.

  7. Random Friar says:

Remembering him to God in my prayers and Mass.

  8. Elizabeth D says:

I prayed for Msgr Barreiro. It is a cool picture.

  9. DavidJ says:

    On it.

  10. Msgr. Barreiro has been a friend of my family’s for a long time and was our tour guide in Rome when we were there in 2002. I, and all of us, will certainly pray.

  11. off2 says:

    Prayer for Msgr Barreiro.

And, in a NY NLM frame of mind, entirely off topic, mea culpa, a certain venerable priest has deeper lace than the monsignor.!? LOL

  12. Bea says:

    Have prayed for him.
Cancer is so devastating. My husband is battling this also.

    “More lace, more Grace”
as some of my boys say.
    Nothing like a biretta, too.

  13. bernadette says:

Msgr Barriero was the guide for our group in Rome in 2005. I will never forget that wonderful experience. He has fought hard for the Tridentine Mass and for the right to life. We need many more priests like him. I will keep him in my prayers.

  14. rodin says:

You suggested that penance be done today so now we can add this wonderful priest to today’s intentions. It is very sad news indeed.

  15. IntroiboAdAltareDei says:

Yes, I am praying the aforementioned prayer to St. Peregrine as a novena, and have encouraged those I know to also do so, in like fashion. Oremus!

  16. r7blue1pink says:

    Absolutely will pray!!!

Msgr. has helped so many families in the United States get vaccine exemptions and went to bat for us when no body else would listen! He was the lone voice upholding parents conscience rights with regards to the aborted fetal vaccines.. And with good cause, because none of us wants to inject our kids with aborted fetal DNA..

  17. ipadre says:

Sad news! I will remember the good Msgr. during my Holy Hour this evening.

  18. Trad Tom says:

I have learned so much over the years by reading this blog ! The beautiful prayer to St. Peregrine is the latest. I will pray it for Msgr. Barriero, and I will pray it for others who are suffering from cancer as well.

  19. Centristian says:

I have been reading about Michael the Archangel today, and how the early Church considered him a healer, before his later popular depiction as warrior. I will remember him to Michael, and also to Raphael, asking the Divine Physician to shed His healing light upon your priestly friend through his powerful angels.

Each night I “admit” myself into the “Holy Hospital of the Church” as I call it. The Virgin Mary with Michael and Gabriel are there. The attendant doctors are Ss. Cosmas & Damian, and St. Luke. St. Camillus de Lellis, St. Peregrine, and St. Martin de Porres are all there to attend upon the patients, with St. Therese, who is our nurse. And St. Charles Borromeo (who selflessly tended to the suffering in the streets of Milan during the epidemic) is the chaplain, who makes his rounds to bless and anoint.

I will admit Monsignor Barreiro tonight, along with myself. It’s a very good hospital.

  20. Cantate says:

I have attended many of Msgr. Barreiro’s Masses. I began praying for him yesterday, when I heard this sad news, and I know many other people here who are praying for him. I will add the prayer to St. Peregrine for him, and attempt entrance to Centristian’s Holy Hospital as well.
