7 Oct – Polish bishops urge 1 Million Poles to pray Rosary at border in honor of historic defeat of Islam

The other day in Madrid, I got to see the Juan of Austria’s personal pendant which flew on his ship at the Battle of Lepanto, 7 October 1571.

That victory, under the aegis of the Mother of God, was a turning point in world history.

For your Just Too Cool file.

From Breitbart:

A Million Christians to Pray Rosary on Poland’s Border Commemorating Historical Defeat of Islam

Poland’s bishops have urged the nation’s Catholics to join a massive rosary prayer crusade along the country’s 2,000-mile border to pray for the salvation of their country. [God love the bishops of Poland!  They are not letting the memory of John Paul II’s Magisterium be snuffed out.  Also, the conference paid to have translated and published in Polish the super-important book Remaining in the Truth of Christ: Marriage and Communion in the Catholic Church – US HERE – UK HERE]
Organizers say they expect up to a million people to participate in the “Rosary on the Borders” event on October 7, the anniversary of the Battle of Lepanto, where “the Christian fleet overcame the Muslim armada, saving Europe from Islamization.”  [Do I hear an “Amen!”?]

[…]“We believe that if the rosary is prayed by about a million Poles along the borders of the country, it may not only change the course of events, but open hearts of our compatriots to the grace of God,” the organisers say on their website.

“The powerful prayer of the Rosary can affect the fate of Poland, Europe, and even the whole world,” it reads.

The “Rosary on the Borders” event will also mark the end of the Fatima centenary, celebrating 100 years since the apparitions of the Virgin Mary to three shepherd children in Fatima, Portugal, in the spring of 1917.

The Polish bishops’ conference has endorsed the event, and asked all Catholics to join the rosary prayer for “the intentions of Poland and the whole world,” even if they are physically unable to make it to the border.

“Families may pray in their homes, sick in hospitals, and parish communities in their churches,” they said.

“A hundred years ago, Mary gave these three Portuguese children a message of salvation: repent, give reparation for sins against my Immaculate Heart and pray the rosary,” the bishops said. Rosary on the Borders is a “special opportunity” to fulfil that calling.

Every January, the Church in Poland celebrates an annual Day of Islam, organised by the Joint Council of Catholics and Muslims and the Committee for Dialogue with Non-Christian Religions of the Polish Bishops’ Conference.

Auxiliary Bishop Henryk Ciereszko of Bialystok, whose diocese hosted the event this year, said that the day “would be first and foremost a prayer meeting” and would also be “an opportunity to counter violence together” in “the context of the terrorist attacks and the Middle East war.”

Very cool.

Now that is what I call Going To The Peripheries.

  2. LarryW2LJ says:

The salvation of the Church may well come from Africa and Poland, where the Bishops have a spine and they know how to use them.

  3. Chris Garton-Zavesky says:

Without weakening the resolve of the Polish bishops….. could we borrow a few, or at least get the recipe of whatever they’re imbibing?

  4. JustaSinner says:

Can’t be there in person…but will be with them on my knees praying the Holy Rosary. I love Poland more every day!

  5. Aquinas Gal says:

Let’s all pray the rosary for that intention too!

  6. GypsyMom says:

Anyone know what time it starts, so that we can pray along with them?

  7. the little brother says:

There is also a world fast going up for the defeat of all evil from the 4 October to the 12th as a Novena of preparation before the Celebration of the Miracle of the Sun @ Fatima.

Can anyone possibly imagine the Italian bishops doing something like this? Not going to the border even. What would the CEI have to propose to get 1 million Italians to do it? I am at a loss.

I learned about this this morning when I was linked to an article at Breitbart. In the comments, someone said something like, “Now I wish I was Catholic…” and offered a prayer of blessing on the Poles. I told him/her, “so come home.” and left a link to cominghome network. Who knows?! But it did reinforce the belief that this sort of Hard Identity Catholicism is the way to evangelize. People are starving for it!

I am also setting myself a reminder, but hopefully Father Z will put one up, since I’m more likely to see it here than on my own phone!

And now, I am off to Adoration and to say my rosary. Deo gratias.

I am very interested in participating. I can’t get the link to work, just a picture no other info comes up. Do you have a web address I could go to for specifics?

  11. Chris Garton-Zavesky says:

How about acts of Reparation to the Sacred Heart and the Immaculate Heart, starting on the 23rd of October, and running to the 31st, the anniversary of Luther’s Revolt?

  12. Justalurkingfool says:

    Amen.

HISTORIC defeat of Islam? How about praying for the CURRENT defeat of Islam? Deus lo vult!

  14. TonyO says:

How about every parish in the US with Polish ties join them?

How about every bishop in the US who has Polish ties asks his diocese to join them?

How about every bishop in the US who admires the Polish heart of devotion urges his diocese to join them?

How about just all of us join them?

  15. JMody says:

    two things:
    1. I had heard once upon a time, that “Don John of Austria”‘s pennant had actually been touched to St. Juan Diego’s tilma (the “poncho” imprinted with the miraculous image of our Lady of Guadalupe) prior to departing Spain. Wasn’t the apparition in 1531? A nice round number, forty years …
    2. I will be in a desert (in the US), because of the current conflict in the Middle East (don’t ask), so while I cannot “be there”, I will join them.

  16. Absit invidia says:

Is that the banner that the Vatican returned to Istanbul?

    [Ummm…]

  17. stjoe says:

Proud to be of Polish descent…

I remember Fr. Peter Mary Rookey telling me that “Polish-, Mexican-, Italian- and Filipino Americans would one day save America.” He did not elaborate as to how, why or when. But it was definitely something that caught my attention.

  18. stjoe says:

Additional comment: I have seen recently other countries’ bishops re-consecrating their nations to Jesus or Mary under various titles. You can be certain Heaven will shower many graces on those nations as a result.

    Where are our American bishops?

  19. Hugh says:

Apparently, this excellent idea is steeped in tradition. The great St Charles Borromeo (1538-1584), Cardinal Archbishop of Milan, erected an entire “rosary” of shrines the entire length of the northern Italian border (not that Italy was a unified state as today, of course, but you understand) to keep out Protestantism from Italy. It worked!

We can do this! So let’s do it! Let’s build a wall … a rosary wall … and Make the Catholic West Great Again!

Here is how it works (for those who like to travel):

You find a church where you wish to attend Mass, on the map here:

    http://www.rozaniecdogranic.pl/mapa

You click on “register” at the given church and provide your personal information.

Pertinent information will be sent to your registered email address.

  22. Andrew says:

You have to use the + / – sign on the map to see more or less detail: Notice that the church of St. Joseph on Lindhurst Road, Adhurst, Southampton is participating in the event: they have 134 people signed up so far. Perhaps other churches, not situated in Poland might join?

  23. PMK says:

    @the little brother
Can you provide information or link for the fast? The link in your post brought me to a photo only. Thank you.

  24. THREEHEARTS says:

Wladyslaw Biernacki, ST JP@’S good friend prophesied in a book that the great polish army would stop the muslim hoard dead in their tracks. Worth a read it is available on the “net. There are other very frightening prophesies why America would not intervene the island of 86 million that would be crushed.

  25. tskrobola says:

    Very nice

  26. adriennep says:

So how can we sign up to show our solidarity officially with them, from our home parishes in U.S.? I found the Bialystok church but unfortunately don’t read Polish…need English-Polish speaking liaison help. We should all try to get our parishes to join the prayer on that day.

Also, World Apostolate of Fatima is organizing week of prayer and fasting starting Sunday. Then, of course the regular First Saturday is October 7 and October 13 itself is the following Friday–participate in special Fatima indulgence that day as well. So little time, so much to pray!

  27. Semper Gumby says:

God Bless Poland. Count me and my trusty Rosary in on Oct. 7.

pannw: Well Done with leaving that link.

    Iggy75: That too.
