   Father Z, are you feeling better?

   I watched the Solemn Pontifical Mass yesterday on YouTube and as usual, I was in tears (because I am in region without a single Latin Mass even though there are Catholic Churches). How much better does it get than this? The music was so beautiful! Isn’t this the kind of effort we need to make for Our Lord?

   EWTN did a great job, showing us what happens at the altar, providing helpful commentary.

   Had no intention of watching it. I go to Kanty in Chicago, so this sort of thing is typical for us even a pontifical (mostly,…mutatis mutandis). But when I heard Msgr. Wadsworth was going to be commentating, I ran home from brunch to watch. Did not disappoint. Msgr. Wadsworth offered insightful, sober, and practical information on the rubrics.

   Equally as heartening was the execution of the ceremonies. It was a bit more relaxed, and not too rigid. Still formal, still deliberate, but this time it seemed more natural. But that’s just me.

   Watched the Mass live. It was beautiful!!! The voice narrative was a little annoying because I am familiar with the Pontifical Solemn High Mass. However, it was probably great for folks that have never seen one before. All in all, Archbishop Sample is a stellar example of a great archbishop. I have been Blessed to have coffee with him a couple of years ago in Portland, Oregon.

   May we be Blessed with many more Bishop of his caliber.

   I didn’t know that the old form of the Pontifical Mass included the vesting of the bishop.
   The hierarchical (= pontifical) Divine Liturgy of the (Chalcedonian) Orthodox Churches and Eastern (Byzantine-Rite) Catholic Churches includes the same (when not abbreviated).

   I was there. It was thrilling. The crowd may not have equalled the numbers of Catholics who have stopped going to Mass these days, but the ones who were there will be back at Mass every Sunday, with children. The Church started with twelve, after all. During the amazing sermon, the word reconquista crisscrossed my mind.

   I was also there, and it was glorious. Archbishop Sample was spot on in his homily, the Basilica was filled with young people. I counted 50 clergy in choir during the procession, although Cardinal Baum, who was in choir during the Pontifical TLM that Bishop Slattery offered, was sorely missed(may he rest in peace).

   It was so clear in that space that the Pontifical TLM truly ought to be the norm of our worship of Almighty God. It was also fascinating to see a such a youthful and imposing prelate being led around by the Sacred Ministers and servers, humbling himself even while being the Alter Christus.

    I was there at the basilica and it was glorious! No sign of Donald Cardinal Wuerl, though! Archbishop Sample was gracious enough stand around the long time and shake the hand of everyone who wanted to thank him. He s the real deal!

    Incredible! Sword I lived in Portland for two years–there is an orthodox Catholicism there that is hard to explain.

    I was able to watch the live stream after (since it was early morning in Adelaide at the time of the mass) and it was AMAZING! I hope one day to be present at a pontifical mass like that. After having gone to a TLM I haven’t felt the same at a NO mass… God bless Archbishop Sample!!

    I’d like to share that my grandfather was a 33rd Degree Mason, and literally hated Catholics. The slogan on the one dollar bill is Novus Oro Seculorum, placed on it by POTUS Roosevelt, a 32nd Degree Mason. Has any one but me correlated that the Novus Ordo Mass is named after Masonic phraseology? I was a Counterintelligence Special Agent in the FBI–which is a crime for me to say if not true, and I’ve basically identified myself, I have a MENSA IQ. I’m intimidated only by offending God. The new mass is leading souls away from God–at least God as we knew Him before 1970.

    I should add that I was a hard-core Existentialist Atheist at the University of Michigan–an honest to God Miracle happened to me regarding Our Lady of Lourdes. I then became Catholic; but I’m from a family that has been in almost every war–I was in Desert Storm I.     And how all that relates back to Fr. Z’s article is that the lack of the sensus fidei after Vatican II, or the Bugnini mass led to the child-abuse scandal.
