From VIS:
RITES OF BEATIFICATION APPROVED BY THE HOLY FATHER
VATICAN CITY, 24 APR 2008 (VIS) – The Office of Liturgical Celebrations of the Supreme Pontiff today announced three beatification ceremonies due to take place over coming days:
Candelaria de San Jose (nee Susana Paz Castillo Ramirez), virgin and foundress of the Congregation of the Carmelite Sisters of the Third Regular Order of Venezuela. Her beatification is scheduled for Sunday 27 April in the stadium of the Central University of Caracas, Venezuela.
Maria Maddalena of the Incarnation (nee Caterina Sordini), virgin and foundress of the Order of Sisters of the Perpetual Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Her beatification is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Saturday 3 May in the Roman Basilica of St. John Lateran.
Maria Rosa Flesch (nee Margherita), virgin and foundress of the Congregation of the Franciscan Sisters of Saint Mary of the Angels. Her beatification is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Sunday 4 May in the cathedral of Trier, Germany.
Notice how His Holiness is providing that beatifications take place in the actual place where the cult of the Blessed is approved? And the Holy Father is not doing the beatifications?
I hope we will see his name on an upcoming list with His Holiness as the celebrant for the beatification.
Sure helps to be a foundress or founder!!!
Now just when is the beatification of Louis and Zelie Martin? Holy examples
of marriage (not just the kind never consummated) would be appreciated!
And Blessed Kaiser Karl I of Austria. Another miracle has been submitted for his cause.
The central website of the Oratory has announced that today the Medical Commission of the Congregation for the Causes of the Saints has approved the “Miracle”

While I don’t outright exclude the possibility of the Holy Father presiding at a beatification, I would be somewhat surprised. It seems that Pope Benedict is returning to a more consistent tradition by reserving himself for canonizations. AFAIK, the first beatification ceremony presided over by a pope was Paul VI\’s beatification of the Martyrs of Uganda…or was it the English Martyrs.
To my mind, it makes more sense to have beatifications done at a local level and reserve canonizations to the Holy Father himself. I could see a solid case being made for the Pope to preside at the beatification of one of his predecessors, however.
Notice that one of these beatifications is in Venezuela? With Chavez around, things could get exciting reasons unconnected with the beatification. Probably a good subject for prayers.
As for the Martins… They’re St. Therese’s parents! If miracles at this time were in God’s plan, they’d be sprouting up like mushrooms; they’re not, so it’s not yet time.
Hasn’t it taken this long for Cardinal Newman, and his beatification come along just in time to confront _this_ culture and society, and to encourage embattled UK Christianity? He’s showing up on the radar screen just in time, like Arthur coming back; and if it is God’s will, so will the Martins’ beatification come along to help encourage France and families. Being enthusiastic is good; but don’t let it make you also feel discouraged that stuff didn’t happen already.
I was rather hoping that Cardinal Newman would be beatified in England. It would be a nice chance to showcase the Oratorians and their beautiful churches in England.
I generally like the idea of “local” beatifications performed by Curial cardinals and/or metropolitans. But this leads me to ask: what is the custom re: the beatification of a Pontiff? I’m looking ahead specifically to the possible beatifications of Pius XII or John Paul II.
I can’t recall, but presume that John Paul II beatified Pius IX and John XXIII. Who beatified Pius X?

One of the first Masses in honour of one of the new beatified Persons, Mother M. This High Mass will at 6 o’clock p.m. of the local time. The Ensemble Sonoritas will sing the Missa Brevis in G by W A Mozart and a Solem Exposition with Te Deum and Benediction will conclude the service. The sisters, who are not going to travel to Rome will be present at that celebration.
